You wish!
I work with my son linemarking after roadworks and we do cop the occasional abuse from drivers who prefer to drive on roads suitable for cart and horse and are apparently are quite happy to put up with substandard roads with no maintenance. They seem to think that better roads just 'appear'.
Why in the world would people complain about roadworks which have only one aim - improve safety on the road.
It is irritating at time I must admit when stuck in a line of traffic for no apparent reason.

Regards

Gday...

cry no confuse Sorry Denis hmm

I guess it is early on a Sunday morning .... and it is a bit subtle and therefore it went over your head. hmm

As a famous TV bloke use to say - "It's a joke Joyce!"

Cheers - John

G'Day John, no it didn't go over my head and I read your post and understood the joke bit - read my last line. I was just commenting that if not for roadworks you would have no roads basically and roadworks frustrate me too.  I tried to write my response to say that I understood it 'from both sides', so I'm sorry if you thought it created a "Joyce" moment. (old tomato-faceno)

Always enjoy your posts.

Gday...

OK .... actually the joke had nothing to do with road works ... it is reflecting the inability of some things to convey their correct message ... sort of what this thread has become ... has created? confuse Sometimes I should leave my twisted humour asleep.

..... and the "Joyce" moment has nothing to do with the Deppendent member for New England

John - I see the problem and savvy - you are clearly a Mexican/Victorian whereas I was brung up in Sydney where we had "Sydney Tonight" with Keith Walshe.
Graeme Kennedy was totally unknown and his humour totally foreign just like that funny aerial ping pong game you played.
Regards

Road Works. and billions of dollars. go hand in hand. Every yr.
Until they look overseas and realise how a road is made PROPERLY
Itll always be the same.
All they do here is repair bad repairs on bad designs.
You'll never win.
Going in circles comes to mind.

They have no idea here.
We were building better roads in UK 50 yrs ago than they do here now.
I know, I've worked on both. It makes a man cry.

When we first came here 44yrs ago.
Once you got outside city limits. you had 'mainly" dirt graded roads.

Run the graders over it coupla times a yr and they were fine.

Nowadays. they've gone waaaay backwards with the quality and design of todays "modern" bitumin roads.

They should let the bitumin wear out and grade it all back to dirt again.
It'd be a lot safer.
Modern drivers would be scared of it and drive a lot more sensibly Maybe..

Nah. Most of 'em have nothing between the ears.

Ahh A throttle. how far down does it go. whheeeeeee. Oh ****. bump...
One less.

Allow me to clear up the ambiguity.

The punchline, "Honestly, I don't think they're working", should be interpreted as "Honestly, I don't think the roadworkers are working". When you do this, the joke makes perfect sense.

Gday...

Weelll .... not actually dorian cry

The joke is that the 'viewer/writer' has been seeing protest signs - of a multitude of causes - like Stop unions or stop the war etc etc etc  ..... the 'viewer/writer' thinks these signs (End Roadwork) are simply one of those protest signs hmm and given that roadwork continues unabated, the signs are not successful.

The joke has NOTHING to do with road work ..... ABSOLUTELY nothing hmm

no I guess this has just been another one of my foolishly subtle posts with wry humour that has gone over the heads of readers - proving that if a joke needs explanation it wasn't very good .... I guess I shouldn't post these anymore and save the head scratching ... praps proving what people think ....... rocky is a bit weird

Cheers - John

John, your posts are enjoyed especially because they generate all sorts of side issues which make people think, and as this is the "I digress" forum it is spot on.
Rocky sure is a bit weird and I hope he never changes.
