Avatar & Signature

To show my ignorance, & finding this site hard to follow, as i am new to this computer usage, i would presume that an Avatar is a thing one would put up as a logo on their personl postings, but a Signature is something i see on all postings at the bottom of their individual Avatars, as in Dougwes' " Live life on your terms"

Don't go crook on me, i am trying to learn ...

Jim, I am new to this sort of thing myself so here goes. Click on (jimfox) and your profile will come up with the information you filled in. On the left under profile it should say avatar, click on that and it'll say something about uploading/downloading something (can't remember the exact words). Click on the top one to download a photo. Anyway as I had photos on my computer I found one that I was happy with, clicked on it to bring it in as my avatar. I haven't a signature but for that, click on signature under profile and a box will come up and you can type what you want and you can add colour, fonts etc. Those little boxes across the top gives you those things. As yet I haven't had a go at that. I am sure that someone who knows more and can explain things better will come along and help. Cheers.

If you follow the instructions given by Gaylehere you should get success.

Hope you get things sorted Jim.

COMPUTERS,we're all learning! They can be great at times, they can also be very frustrating.

Hi Jim and welcome to our happy group of travelers :)

Hopefully you can follow the correct advice Gaylene has give you - fluff around with it and despite not being a 14 year old computer geek - you will get an avatar (a picture or image) and your signature (like Dougwes or mine)

Make sure if you are going to use a photo or picture you already have saved, that you work out which one you intend to use before you start the process - save you some time.

Hi jimfox,

Pretty much as explained by Gaylehere alright. The thing with avatars is that a site can only allow a certain size of pic, so some thing like a pic might be installed at 10 -12 kb. and a gif avatar will go as high as 30 kb.

So it all depends on the algorithm the site allows. All to do with band width.

It also depends on your original size of pic, and the reductions that a forum can operate at. This forums seems generous in that regard, and any pic should be automatically installed.

Mine is a gif made up of around 7 single pics and took a bit of experimenting to get it to work here. Just for interest sake if you right click on any pic and select info or properties it will show the kb size of it ;my avatar is around 37 kb.
