My Jayco vans outside Gas Bayonent

Hi all,

Need help with the new Baby Q Hose / Bayonent. My Q has a gas bottle fitting with regulator. I need a hose / fitting to fit this one on our 2015 Jayco van. Photos attached.

You can get the bayonet hose at BCF or Rays. You just change them over on the Q.

If you have a look in Idigress I put a pic of an adapter you can put on the end of the bayonet hose if you want to connect to a gas bottle at any time without changing hoses over again.

You can also get one at bunnings (about  $50.00). I leave the hose on babyQ ,then just hook it up to van ( you don't need a regulator as it use the vans regulator ).

Cheers Owen.

BBQ's galore sell the genuine hose with bayonet to 3/8 lpg 1.5m for around $36

I got one from fleabay and the 3/8 nut was wrong type of thread it was replaced with same and same issue with 3/8 nut.

Returned and refunded

I am probably open for correction here. I always thought LPG nuts have a cut mark on them and others that don't.

Cheers

Hey Jim. Just to show that its not only Jayco that do cheap/stupid things with their 'vans - our 18 mnth old Supreme has its outside gas bayonet attached to the frame. Obviously its a convenient way to run the hose and attach the bayonet.

The only problem is that you need to get down on your hands and knees (or your side) and reach under your van about a foot. Then the standard length gas hose supplied with your BBQ is too short to have the cooker at normal height and a reasonable distance away from the van (cant get my Q higher than about 2 feet off the ground and cant open the lid.

A totally useless fitting. I carry a spare 9kg tank which is inside a plastic milk crate to stop it tipping over when travelling and use this for the BBQ

Hi Bruce & Bev,

Our van is Higher off the ground.smile If I can get a 1.5m hose, and one of those Bunnings light folding tables, all should be good for cooking grilled Fish & chips under the awning.biggrin Fresh salad with a bottle x 2 of the white stuff you drink.smile

On our Montana van we ordered a bbq hatch and gas bayonet fitting. There was a hose inside the hatch ready to hook up to what ever bbq I bought. The gas fitting was along side the outside wall and I can screw the hose in by bending down, and plenty of length in the hose to have bbq on a table. Which is also a Baby Q.

Hi Jim
Jayco dealers also sell the fitting but are more expensive better off at Rays, BCF etc

This has been pointed out to Jayco & they now fit the bayonet to the outer side for convenience.

I think I heard that they will, as a goodwill gesture, re-fit the ones like yours to a more convenient position.

Have you asked them?

A 3 mtr hose is a better choice available from most gas supplies

Hi Neil. I have a Supreme, not a Jayco.

Asking them to re-locate the exterior gas bayonet would be pushing it. My 'van has been a bit of a lemon - mainly smallish issues - but we're up to warranty fault no. 63 fixed so far. Now they have to would out why we have no 240v power as a sparky I got in found a dead fault and has tagged out our RCD (so no power through the exterior fitted plug). Fortunately we are staying a few months on the same private location and the sparky hooked up a safe extension cord under the van to keep water off and it runs inside to a RCD multi board. We then have our TV, fridge, kettle and toaster running off short extension cords and one going to the battery charger to keep the batteries topped up (we are under cover, so our solar panels are only running at about 10% efficiency.

As well as the 240v issue (its likely in assembly they put a screw through the pre-wired cables), they have to fix the gas heater and about 4 other faults.

So its not just Jayco that have issues, its seems from reading the many posts over the past couple of years, that poor workmanship is the norm with almost all manufacturers. About 10 years ago we bought a new 22ft Jayco and never had any problems - no warranty issues and nothing broke or failed to work or keep working. About a year ago when I was in Melbourne, I took the 'van to Supremes repair factory (they have a fancy name for fixing up all the problems here). There was an Italian guy in his 60s there and he told me he'd worked in the industry all his life and he lamented the fact that craftsmen and trades weren't employed anymore - just young casuals with no skills or proper training

Hi Neil,

No. And I would only go back for a major repair / replacement. Last time they had it for 8 days and still what could have been completed in 24 hours still stuffed up.

I now have the time to fix it once and for all. All I asked for was a van, without (Bandaids Made in China)  for a cure.

When the vans finished and ready to roll, I will post a few Photo's under,( show us your rig.)

Regards Jim & Lambie

Jim. We're going a bit up market with the grilled fish and white wine aren't we ?????

Thought it was fush and chups in paper and cheap red??

If you come over to WA, you need a cruise ship to take you about 20-30km off shore to catch eatable fish (been fished out so badly) and if you buy it, its been snap frozen on board a boat for about a week and then the retailer will charge you about $60 a kg for anything other than flake (shark) which is about $45 a kg.

However, if you visit us at Mandurah, we have a secret fish n chip shop that makes the most incredible stuff. The batter snapper or dhu fish is about the size of half a dinner plate (a meal for two from one serve) and its so fresh and not ranky grey garbage so so many shops flog off now days

Hi Jim,
I haven't seen your set up but a Weber has a regulator on the line to your gas bottle. When you attach to the van that bayonet line will already be regulated. Weber barby's are well regulated and having two on the line can cause you to have a much lower flame than you normally get off just a bottle.

I have had to remove the one on the Weber of some installations and still had low flame issues due to the age or condition of different vans existing regulators. Also some installers do not go with a big enough supply pipe to the Bayonet.

Just letting you know in advance if you have a problem. Some folk actually make up a special hose just for the van with no Weber reg on it and most problems go away. Any way see how you go .

Hi Bruce & Bev,

Its not if. We are coming to visit on our adventure. Wouldn't miss it for quids. We might be a bit dusty. From Carnarvon we will travel via Gascoyne Junction to Mullewa, Wubin down to Northam, Brookton, and make our way across to you.

Just to see what Bev has to put up with.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Warm Regards Jim & Lambie

A bit off topic but  ..  We had great Fush 'n Chups at Mandura.

We went for a cruise on the Murray River in a relo's 'Africa Queen' (a beautifully restored local traditional fishing boat) complete with its chapman pup motor & pulled in at their favourite Fish & Chip shop beside the river.  They served us at the boat & we putted off to a quiet spot to enjoy a fantastic feed along with copious quantities of Margaret River Verdelho & Hortons Dry White.  To top it off he pulled out a couple of the local blue swimmers from the esky.  Yum!   A nap in the sun & then putter off to his home with its jarra wood jetty on the old canals. Back in time for the evening BBQ after such an exhausting day.  What a life!

Sorry to go OT, but Bruce & Bev you've got my interest now !

We spend a fair bit of time in Mandurah and as yet don't think we have come across your chippy, Mnnn care to enlighten us ?

Last time we had some over Easter we gave Cicerello's a miss as they charge an arm and a leg for the good stuff, and their basic fish is, well, say no more.

Sharky's was not too bad out on the Dolphin Key but again expensive. Some say Meadow springs near the new Chinese restaurant but ......

So come on let the cat out of the bag, we won't tell anyone else here.
