I recently purchased a ALTECH twin tuner 500GB vast set top box from Sat Plus. I kept my original TV. I am now able to record two shows at once. GREAT !!.
Suggest you look at SATPLUS website or ring John at Maroochydore, great guy full of knowledge. You will get his phone number off his website.
The early Altec televisions with a built Vast decoder had a few 'teething problems', but the newer ones hopefully are fixed now!!
Great idear haveing the two units combined. But I'm old school and if one of the units fail ( Vast receiver or the television it's self )then you have lost both your vast receiver and television to gether while away for repairs.
Same goes for the DVD/ television combination. Better of haveing a seperate television and seperate Vast decoder, both can be run of of 12 Volts.
Did Satplus also talk to you about a dish & LMB for your setup!! Make certain that you get a 80cm dish and a stand, also a good sattilight meter ( marriage saver ) is also good insurance. Good quality coax cables ( RG6 Quad cable ) is also a must.
Thanks for the welcome Dougwe and to others for all the comments.
I had thought about the problem should one part of the unit gives fault but if I generalise I dont think we have too many problems with electrical items these days.
I have done some research on the Satellite systems and my decision at this stage is to go with the fibreglass folding dish at 80cm dia, along with the Sat finder from Satplus which locks onto the Vast satellite for ease of tuning.
All the cabling and fittings that Satplus supply I believe are the top quality items and will be suitable to my needs.
I have spoken at length by phone with John from Satplus in Qld (no affiliation etc etc.) and he has been more than helpful to my needs.
He even helped me with some questions I had on the terrestrial tv service in country Australia.
I am about to "pull the trigger" on this kit but the dish I want is not in stock for a week or so.
I will report back once I have the system and have had time to try it out.
Cheers.

Dicko if memory serves I believe this or similar questions have been asked before and Sat plus were mentioned. I suggest you do a search on "satplus" You may well get the answers you are looking for.
Have had the full kit from Satplus now for a couple of months and have been away in the van to Port Germein.
I bought the TV with the inbuilt Vast receiver along with the folding dish and the digital signal tuner. The kit came with all wiring and fittings for a very easy install into the van.
Although only away once I have set it up several times to get used to tuning it in by myself and I must say that it is the simplest and easiest kit I have seen.
Back in the Aurora days i had another kit that was hopeless to set up and caused many a cross word between me and the cook.
The inbuilt unit in the TV works a treat with the only complaint if any, is about the quality of the sound. It is no worse than the old TV it replaced and it is not an issue with me but if someone wanted theatre quality sound in their van then you would need a set of speakers.
The satellite finder is absolutely A1 and I can be set up and watching TV within minutes.
I have a tripod which came with the kit but I have also set up an "S" bend type bracket with mounting points both front and rear of the van so I basically have the best of all worlds.
John at Satplus in Qld was great to deal with...he even mentioned the detail of the sound quality from the TV when explaining the the unit. Cant get much more honest than that, I rekon!
All in all a very happy camper and sat TV viewer
