G'day Dishlick, Google will show you active goldbuyers in most States....the above link shows you daily 'Spot' Buy' price in Australian Dollars per Ounce Troy, which is better than the oft quoted US per Oz shown on TV daily...no conversion to take into consideration with Australian Dollars....
There is another link I can put up if you require which shows price per OZ Troy in US Dollars which is active 24 hours /day updated by the minute!
You will be aware all Gold is sold/purchased in Troy Ozs which equals 31.03 grams and todays price is Au$55.90 per gram.....never use Averdupois which you use for your groceries as there are only 28.35 grams per Oz Averdupois...a lot of new chums get taken down with this fact if they are not aware......
Where I am, gold is 97 % pure...all buyers have a XRF machine which measures purity parts per million..so very accurate....gold is different purity from different parts of Australia of course..down to about 90/92%........
Some gold buyers will give Day Spot price less 15% if the parcel is not large....you can sell at say Coiltek Maryborough Vic. Melbourne Gold Exchange etc.. do google search...cash on the spot..no questions....I think amateurs can sell about $50,000 p.a. without disclosure!.....never included me unfortunately....
..PW Beck Adelaide, Perth Mint..Google these as well.....are all buyers/refiners who will take large parcels and refine and charge say $160 odd for the priviledge...very accurate and honest and proceeds direct to Bank Account....generally pay spot price on known/refined purity% less their fee.....
There was a gold buyer at the last Laanecoorie Gold Bash Laanecoorie Vic.....they had a chap there smelting the scrap/nuggets down for $10...and the gold buyer worked on the following example price calculation.....say 64.5 grams...bit over 2 Ozs Troy....64.5grams at 97% purity in Victoria Golden Triangle gold...and worked on say that day's gold price of $50.10 per gram or Au$1558.22 per Oz Troy........Calculation: $50.10 +2% premium x 64.5 x 97% = $3,197.19 for the gold parcel of 64.5 grams.....
No two nuggets are identical and folk particularly Yanks will pay a premium if the nugget looks like something!.....nuggets should be worth more than refined bar simply because of their intrinsic value...Ebay....read Feebay used to be ideal way to sell individual nuggets worldwide however their fees and Paypal fees are now 15%+......which dampens a sellers ardour somewhat.....
I just 'traded in' some gold nuggets to Bendigogoldworld for my wifes new SDC2300 detector....they are happy to take them spot purity which is another way of getting value for your nuggets....although the reality these days is they are more likely to be nugglets...
Trust this helps mate.....good luck....hope to see you out there....E&OE on above calculations.....Hoo Roo
P.S. this is that 'Real Time' site..updated by the second and you can quickly see/monitor gold trends if you have a mind to....
Thanks heaps there Larry i was going to pm you because of your avitar and past posts.Thats the sort of info i was after thanks again maybe we may come across each other whilst in the field. I have found an area by research and after a w/end looking it may be a good spot. cheers

I'll have to take you and the missers with us on one of our expeditions. Our Jack Russel has a nose for it. We swap smacko's for each bit she finds.
lol.....in my experience Jack Russell's have more of a nose for snakes....than gold...and Joe Blakes' I try and avoid......I won't work for smacko's however a bottle of Bundy round the camp fire at night is gratefully received..being a North Queenslander I was 4 years old when I thrust my mothers breast aside and demanded my first Bundy...has kept my school-girl figure trim and terrific....I'm down to 120 Kg now.......sometimes when I find nothing I have to resort to Green Ginger Wine....you feel it going in....and even worse when its coming out!...... . I feel you and I would be a dangerous combination together....I do regard you as a friend... as we both dislike the same people!...lmao.....Hoo Roo

Sorry goldfinger I'm with dishlicker a good port in camp is paramount. seems you were lucky our 5000 has only found junk. LOL . is yet to open its account on the yellow stuff but health issues have prevented any serious swinging. our little ace 250 has found the most.
Cheers bass
You are well kitted out for those long days in winter. At lease you have every chance of missing a strike by a wayward joe blake. The number of them I have seen in our travels. One good way to miss them we have found, is to drag four fruit tins behind bounching around making plenty of noise. We also carry a EPIRB with us. Plus
Heavens to betsy if we teamed up. You like The Bundy...... Me I'm Catholic...... I drink anything. The Church corrupted me on Alter wine in the sacristy. That's when I was weaned off.
Just for just for a few years though. I have never fully recovered.
If its coloured Red, I let it breathe for a good five seconds I never insult my fellow mate, by saying no to a good Red or two . Bottles that is.
