A fellow grey nomad park next to me in a caravan park told me of his experience in buying a caravan at the brisbane show . He sign a contract to buy a new build caravan which would be finish in March and he would head to to Perth for a wedding in April , He contracted them in December to check how thing were going and they said they would get back to him , He finally got in touch with them in January to find it had not been processed and need more information at that point he said he would cancel the contract and was told he could not cancel the contract. So he take the contract off to the lawyer who told him it was water tight and could not get out of it , The company had 12 months to supply the caravan and on completion he must pick up the caravan within 7 days and pay the full amount , If he failed to do so they would sell the caravan and he would have to pay the difference between the contract price and the selling price , So they could sell the caravan for $10000 less than the contract price to a friend . The Lawyer cost $120 so his said next time he would the pay the Lawyer the $120 to look at the contract before he signs it . On a good note he is very pleased with his new caravan . He said it was the dealer who was the problem buyer beware .
I would be getting another lawyer if I were him.
Contracts have an approx delivery date, which if not met puts the dealer in default.
Even if a delivery date was not on the contract he has a reasonable expectation of delivery within a reasonable time.
The dealer was bluffing and got away with it.
Caveat Emptor if buying at shows.
