Not my cooking but I would like to highly recommend the "Crown Hotel" The middle pub in the main street of Home Hill QLD. It is right opposite the free camp/rest stop behind the shops along side the railway line.
I was a bit worried my medium rare Angus Rump would have no moo in at all as it is was cooked on a hot plate not over a flame BUT it was still red in the middle and tasted perfect.
The publicans only took over this place 18 months ago that was run down and no Bistro. Very basic meals. They now have a good menu and average prices.
I wish the Crown Hotel every success in their new venture. Well done. I made sure I complimented the cheff in person and the publican.

Is that the F&C on the corner? If so, I think they have changed hands as all new inside, no menu up yet but paper ones on the counter. Everything looks new. They are still waiting on some supplies to arrive. Including Pizza. Pizza oven there as well looking all shiny. I had a plain burger there for lunch.

It's a Fish and Chip shop but it's at the southern end of the main drag. It's run by a couple of friendly ladies. Very much like Home Cooking and the prices are right. I think I know of the place you're talking about but I haven't been there yet. I love how the town is going ahead thanks to them embracing Free Camping. A new IGA, a new Bank, new shops opening up two fuel places now, new Pub owners etc. I remember what a sad place it was (& sliding downhill) before they built the "Comfort Stop". "The Times, They Are A Changing!!"

Home Hill is giving Ayr a lesion on how to look after us Grey Nomads.
I noticed the Leap Hotel (nth of Mackay) has extended their lawn area for more Free Campers on a recent trip north. Another lovely place for a meal, beer, shower ($2.50) and a sleep.
I have also had a good at the first pub coming into town from the south and the last one going north , The one on the south was better, Middle one at that stage didn't do meals so must try it .
