Is there a forty foot barge pole any where near????
Engines and transmissions very unreliable once it gets past the 100,000 k mark. I got suckered twice.......you would have thought once would do it.....but no
Very comfortable and a dream to drive for that I loved it .....but I dont have a bottomless pit of money to keep it on the road .....trust me you will need it..........
Sorry

Thanks for that. I'll make sure my mech checks it out fully before I go any further. I agree, it is great to drive and really comfortable. Many years (and mistakes) have taught me to think with my mind and not with my heart.

I had it all checked out to so make sure your mechanic has a crystal ball I guess the only thing I can say is ......if you do good luck

First a jeep compass and now a freelander, forget about thinking bargains and go with reliability, you will be happier in the long run. And again your mechanic is after business he will look after himself first so wake up to yourself.
Can't remember what year mine was but we bought a deisel new and it was a lovely vehicle until it got to about 120k. From then on it was a disaster. Cracked head, electronics, you name it. Repair costs were horrendous and Landrover dealers were totally unforgiving, by far the worst service I have ever had. Ended up trading it in for $4000 when it was only 4 years old just to get rid of it. Original cost was approx $35,000. Rod.

Ah! The serenity
Tug - Mitsubishi Challenger, Van - Starcraft Outback Poptop..
It's all about previous servicing ! One part I like about Jap vehicles is parts and service availability! As in if engine fails .. Another latter model low mileage can be fitted ?? Vehicle of this age . Have lots of info on what or where the problems are . Some models ( all makes) can have simple things like undersized radiator etc . If this is the problem ? Then it's not rocket science to upgrade or keep good cooling system maintenance . It's quite often a $5 part ( like fuel filter etc) that fails which leads to catastrophic failure .. Especially lowing ..
If you like the look and seating position/comfort of a Land Rover why not consider a 2004 Land Rover Discovery....the 2003 and 2004 Land Rover Discovery's were made by BMW at that stage I think and are very desirable tow vehicles and you will see many towing vans...my set up is shown in photo..
I've had 3 Discos in succession, V8, very hungry fuelwise... and TD5 Diesels...the automatic diesels are the way to go and great fuelwise I found........beautiful seating position and comfort and ride....plus towing ability...with high payload about 4,000Kg from memory for the 2004 TD5 The most important consideration with a Land Rover is due diligence before you purchase....who owned it...has it been off road....low mileage is the go..preferably one that has been owned by a Doctor or matron taking the kids to Toorak.....all three of mine had been owned by Doctors...they get rid of them at 3 years...after lease finish....so you may be looking at a two owner 2004 vehicle..but if it has been faithfully maintained with books, HAS NO OIL LEAKS UNDERNEATH, and passes an independent vehicle check nominated by you, not the dealer/seller....
Then my point is you will get excellent value for money as they don't hold their resale values from new price......Doctors/professionals don't care as they lease and their tax deductions have taken care of any capital loss...
Also be aware Land Rover used to have an extensive network of dealers however due to cost of equipment most dealers are now only situated in Capital City's..except Port Lincoln and Kalgoorlie etc....repairs are expensive however you can get serviced locally if you have bought well in the first place and it doesn't need repairs... Just my thoughts based on my own experiences..not what someone else has told me..... Good luck mate.....Hoo Roo
