Bingara

After reading some recent write-ups on Bingara, I'm planning to tow the van (1600kg behind a Ranger) thru there at some point soon whilst touring around Northern NSW. However I'm reading mixed reviews on roads getting there (other than Tamworth - Warrialda). Some of the reports are quite a few years old.

1. Bingara - Narrabri. It seems that this road is sealed all the way but twisty (left-right / up-down) and narrow and good idea to have your CB on CH40 as trucks announce when they are approaching narrow bits.

2. Bingara - Delungra. Except that I cannot find out the surface, reading similar comments to Bingara - Narrabri.

3. Bingara - Armidale. The bit that is Thunderbolt's Way is OK but I cannot find anything about the rest of it. Bingara and Thunderbolts way get a good mention on motorbike sites but never in the same story.

Is there anyone out there who can comment on these 3 routes?

G'day LLD

I can certainly give you info on the Bingara- Delungra rd as we have towed our 22' van up and down that road several times over the last 10 years or so.

It is a good sealed rd with no problem bits at all.

Do you have to go to Narrabri LLd . If you are looking at a map to travel through to Bingara.

I would go from Coona to Gunnedah , Lake Keepit turn off to Manila to Bingara , if you are coming from

western Vic . As Frank said the roads are reasonable . I travel over a lot of these 'trunk roads' regularly,

I find them reasonable to quite good in parts . If you could be a bit more specific about your routes ,

may help a bit more.

Having just moved in to Bingara I can tell you the latest and 1st hand.
Q1.......Bingara to Narrabri is narrow and windy and hilly but scenic. Not a lot of traffic just drive to conditions. I found it ok towing a small pop top and a friend had a mobile home, she only sad a naughty word once..lol.
Q2. ....Bingara to Delungra, agree with KFT. All good.

Q3 .....Bingara to Armidale, going on the Copeton Dam rd. Is a bit narrow and windy in places but good and no trouble, then you turn right onto the Bundarra rd it has a bit of dirt for 10 kms is ok too then into Bundarra. From there it's Thunderbolts Way to Uralla, which is all sealed and not a problem. So if you do go this way enjoy and safe travels LLD.
Make sure you stop at Bingara the river is a great free camp and the town welcomes travellers with a smile and hello.
Send us a PM and if we are home we will put on the hilly too. Cheers.

Thanks for all that folks. Our original trip had us staying at Gunnedah on our way to Glen Innes and Tenterfield. Then Bingara came into the picture. Turning at Somerton and going via Manilla is looking good too. That road is actually in the fold of the big map I'm looking at so I never saw it.

Hi Fringe Dweller, heading up that way mid to late June. We have your route on our map (at the moment), any suggestions of what to see or where to go would be most welcome. We have a lot of maybe destinations on a map but are always looking for suggestions.

I will follow any comments on here with interest
