Camping on the Gibb river road

There is virtually no free camping on the GRR any more.
There are camps at stations etc along the way though. You should check with them individually.
From memory, most have open fire places available.

You should seriously consider your weight in this area. It is what does most of the damage that people suffer.

I suggest you leave your choofer at home

I agree with Peter n Margaret regarding weight, also the road has got very busy of late and spots are hard to get, let alone wood, get some when ever you can, it does get cold at night.

As others say, there is almost no camping along the Gibb, outside of the station and Nat Parks campgrounds. Lots of No Camping signs these days, at places where once you could camp.

We had fires at El Questro (private riverside camp site), Home Valley (riverbank "bush" camp), Mt Barnett/Manning campground. No campfires at Mornington. Don't know about Bells Gorge, Charnley or Mt Hart.

I can confirm that campfires are fine at each of Mt Elizabeth, Charnley River and Mt Hart.
