have read today that two of the very long term tugs that have been around for over 50 years are no longer going to be sold in Australia I suspect its due to the release of the new Pajero Sport . Both the Landrover Discovery and the Nissan patrol will finish when current stock runs out

Why on earth has Nissan apparently decided to drop their Patrol range??
So popular and the latest shape has returned to just a "tidied up" version rather than the pansy looking thing they put out last year......and the price was great too.
Keen to get some confirmation on the Patrol, as was thinking of buying one later this year.

If this is so my opinion is that Nissan have done it to them selves what moron at Nissan would think that you try to compete against a V8 with. 4 cylinder

I thought it was the LR Defender. My advice was the new Disco is not due until mid 2017 and LR was still making the Disco 4 until October this year. It seems the LR has been caught out with non compliance of the new euro safety and polution requirements.

Gday...
Interesting, that is the first I had heard of that.
This is what LR have to say about the requirements and their compliance -
Yes, the LR Defender ceased production last year - November I think ... and despite being a Land Rover 'sympathiser' I really doubt you could compare the Defender with a Patrol - one is a 'grass-roots/down to earth/rugged' 4x4 and the other a very capable, and loved, modern 4x4.
I understand the reason for discontinuance of the Patrol Y61 is that they sell so few diesel Patrols. Apparently, their biggest market is America and the Middle East - both countries prefer the petrol variant. Australia is the only place they sell diesels in any number - and that number is insufficient to justify continued production of a diesel variant.
However, I am unaware that the Discovery will be discontinued.
Indeed, there is a Discovery Sport on sale already (to replace the Freelander) and the 'replacement' for the Discovery 4 is expected to be released in late 2017 and a replacement 'Defender' as well apparently.
Cheer - John

I can't see the Bits R Missin replacing the Patrol or the Disco , well maybe the Disco but not the Patrol. A lot of O/S imports are not coming into OZ after the VW farce and the fuel and pollution control fiasco

Nissan are only advertising the petrol version Patrol on their website.
I had the 4 cyl diesel for many years and towed a 24 ft van all over Aust as well as using it for work. Ran up about 400,000 km on it before I sold it - never a problem, no warranty issues and pulled anything with ease.
Be interesting to see how the L/Cruiser diesel prices hold now their main competition has gone

My understanding is that for diesel motors to conform with new euro 6 standards a product called ad blue or is it blue ad needs to be put in the car as well. The new ford everest has it. Issues seem to be that the ad blue has a short shelf life, and in the everst the km range is not large ie I think 10,000kms. If it gets low car goes intoo limp mode, then will stop. Great if you are half way accross the simpson desert. The disco4 will eventually have to meet the regs, so thats why it needs an upgrade. The poor old defender could not meet the 5 regs let alone the 6. I love LR, and its on my shopping list. As to the patrol being modern. Sorry its about 15 years old in its current series and as good as it was the small diesel motor just struggles. Pity as with the old 4.2 it was on a real winner. It seems we are forced to have cars that are euro compliant, and with that comes some issues that make long outback travel trips a more planning exercise.
