Photoelectric Smoke Detector for our Caravan

We went into the "the big green shed" ( Bunnings ) today and purchased a new smoke detector for our caravan,

It's one of the new Photoelectric Detector's with built in emergency light, and also has a Hush Button, (very handy when the "BOSS" burns the toast )

I tried it out tonight after fitting it and it's brilliant, the second the alarm activates , the light comes on and stays on as long as the alarm sounds,

The alarm has three batteries, 1x 9v for the alarm and 2 x AA batteries for the light, which is an LED and very bright

One touch of the test / Hush button  kills the alarm if activated in error, as I said, this makes the Boss happy.

I would recommend this Alarm for any Caravan, AND NO I'm not getting any "Back-hander" from Bunnings hmmhmm

Now, lets see if I have a problem with posting this info, like the last one crycrycry

Bought one yesterday, didn't work.going back today for a refund today.

also to replace the 9 volt battery you have to remove a plug to open battery compartment, found it impossible to take off without causing damage.Maybe I am not doing it right, but it is to complicated.

"Yep"  I don't suppose it would work if you couldn't fit the 9v battery, You are right about fitting the 9v battery Plain Truth,  Not impossible but rather hard, I managed to open the lid after giving the connection a good wriggle and using a fair bit of patience, It's just as well the battery lasts over 12 Months, or there could be another one going back  as well. !!

Just a note for NSW people. It's an offence to not have a working smoke detector in your van. The Detector must also be fitted with a hush button. It is an offence to cover the detector to prevent your coking from operating it or the remove it to silence it.

We went to our local Bunnings just a few weeks ago and didn't see these displayed - pity.

They are life savers without a doubt, but a real pain when cooking toast or frying steak and the like. Have to have the door and all the windows open before you start to avoid the ear splitting noise. I guess that's why so many RVers take them down or remove the battery

That's exactly why I went for one with a hush button, I tested it with some burning paper and as soon as it activated I pressed the hush button, stopped straight away and remained silent  for a good period of time afterwards around 5 - 10 minutes, long enough to burn a good steak disbelief
