Perth are trialing parking for ladies only ! Now I have heard everything! Firstly...I am a lady ( well sometimes. ) Secondly isn't this discrimination? Their idea ,is that it might be safer for women ! If I was a" would be rapist" I sure as hell would be rubbing my hands together, in the thought that I would only have to fend off other women if I was caught. Why don't they simply have more security & Police on the beat to protect the public? They are spending far too much time revenue raising & not enough time "protecting & serving" the public. How about legalizing the use of pepper spray( at least), so these women can have a chance of protecting themselves. What do all of you Nomads think about this latest revelation?
This story was on the Sunrise show this morning! This is the only form of media that seems to be carrying this story atm!

So, are they really female only, of just female friendly? The information in both stories seems to conflict. In the text of one story it says "Female only" while the police are saying men won't be fined for parking in the spots, and they won't be policing who parks there. And the signs say men are "encouraged" to support the "female friendly" parking spots.
I'm friendly to anyone, I don't care what gender they are....

From what I have read they are Female friendly. Meant for females ,but they won't fine the men for using them! But they are hoping the men will help with the experiment.
I think this is a good idea! The parking bays are situated next to a lift well for a quick exit. The bays are being trialed after several incidents of females being followed to their cars late at night.
For a solo lady travelling and staying at rest stops etc, go to Vinnies and buy a old pair of mens work boots and get into the habit of placing outside by the door.
Gives the impression you have that big burly guy with out the other problems.
I use the second chair as I prefer my own company and know that I am not good for the fairer sex so usually try to keep my distance.

Brian

We live in Perth and this is just another crazy idea that the City of Perth council has churned out over the past couple of years. The police don't enforce parking infrigements here - council staff do it, and the "pink parks" are only voluntary - everyone will still park in them. Look at how many park in disabled parks at shopping centres because theyre usually lazy.
This particular council has a Lord Mayor who is being investigated by the state govt for taking $1000's of gifts which are against state rules and the state crime commission has already given her the thumbs down on her behavior. Last week it was disclosed that 4 councilors had taken gifts (expensive ones) from various companies who have contracts with that council. These people are quite well paid now (along with free computers, tablets, phones, phone calls etc). If they feel they are not well enough renumerated, then they shouldn't stand for the positions - theyre not forced into representing us. And goodness knows how much our local rates go up each year!

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
Some countries have experimented with making women-only parking bays wider than regular bays, prompting criticism for suggesting women cannot park as well as men.
The bays used in the Perth trial are the same size as regular bays.

Same applies to the Mothers With Prams Only that shopping centers put in (Has no Enforcement at Law ) It just adds another clearly ID zone for purse snatchers, while mum put the kids in the car she becomes a soft target to the low life's that haunt shopping precincts

I think the real test for this idea is whether women would actually feel safer having these reserved parking spaces. If so, then I would be prepared to put up with the inconvenience. However, it would annoy me if other males flouted the convention just as it would annoy me if able bodied people were to use parking places reserved for the disabled.

I think disabled spaces are a different thing to the female spaces. Disabled people need wider parking for wheel chairs or mobility aids. So if I needed to park and the only space was one of the female friendly ones, I'd park in it. I wouldn't do the same in a disabled parking space however. Anyway, it would would cost you over $400.00 to park in a disabled spot in Newcastle.....
