South Australia ?

were thinking about going to south Australia for two months from May  to June ,I know Qeensnland makes more sense but we need a change.

From what I have been told and I hope it's wrong the wheather will be cold and wet this time of year?.

Has anyone travelled there this time of year ?. I know no one can predict the wheather.

We just want a rough idea of what we might be in for..

Regards Ron..

Where in SA?
It is a very large area and the weather will vary depending on whether you are hugging the coast or inland in the desert.
We have some of the most interesting desert areas in the country.

Cheers,
Peter

Yeah Peter

around the spencer/ st Vincent gulf areas,Rapid bay, victor harbour we have not been to S/A before but from what I see on the map around those coastal areas look stunning...

The plan is to start there and you know how it goes other nomads will soon put us on the rite track..

The desert areas hopefully we might explore them as well but Iam a fisherman....

Cheers Ron...

Ron-D.

Been in the areas you mentioned at various times of the year and always struck terrible wind (weather, not mine - that's a given). Just back from tripping the Eyre Peninsula in February. It's "tinny" & fishing heaven all the way from Fitzgerald Bay all the way around to Smoky Bay. Grey Nomads with "tinnies" were settling down for a month or two of relaxing & fishing all the way with a lot of the fishing just off a jetty.

Hi There,

Try the York and Eyre Peninsulas.  Plenty of parks and fishing spots.  There are good tourist books from the Information Centers which detail road maps etc.  If you get bored, there is always Coober Pedy, the opal area, the Flinder's Ranges and Mt Gambier's blue lake.  Something for everyone. Not to mention the wine areas and clean skins for $48 a dozen.  Good luck.

Hi Ron. I was around Renmark last June for about four weeks and I still haven't thawed out. Cold, wet and blew a gale.

Hi, well you are in themiddle of winter and along the southcoast there is nothing between you and Antarctic, so yes it can get cold. most winter days around 15-18 c, nights can get down to 5 c or zero in some parts. However, you can get lots of calm sunny days, great for walks and site seeing. You could go to the Flinders Ranges like Rawnsley Park at Wilpena, cold nights and clear sunny days. Great for camp fires, or stay north a bit like pt Hughes, Moonta area where you can fish and not so much cold southerly blasts. Great wineries in mckaren vale, adelaide hills or barossa. music sessions on Sundays with fires, but yes can get cold. perhaps stay in Adelaide while doing the wineries. west beach, semaphore or brighton caravan parks. Or Brown Hill Creek in foothills. good luck!

 Sure do.

I can't spell very well & often have to revert to the old fashioned Australian Pocket Dictionary that sits on my desk beside my Windows 7 for Dummies book.   Either that or I call out to SWMBO 'how do you spell .......'

Back on topic  .. I just hate caravaning in the cold.   But I love kayaking in the cold with a wet suit on.

forget the cold, that's what we make jumpers for.  One of my very favorite places is South Aus. is Burra, do the tour, self guided, you buy a key for $20 (i think) that gets you in to all the magnificent original old sites all over town, very awesome. Ohh and buy a heater, the nights did get chilly.wink

My first visit was 2010 in the truck on our way to Alice Springs, sleeping in a tent, the Park owner tolerated us sleeping in the laundry (in at midnight and gone by 6am) but said no way on the way home....

We had such a good time there it's created a desire to see more of the state .

The weather is good at the moment 20-25. I've lived in all Australian states and territories and found the wind on the coast is no worse than anywhere else. York and Eyre Peninsulars are the places to go, not much on the Fleurieu though. We generally head for Victoria when caravanning, much greener and far more camping areas and Victoria actually has lakes and rivers with water in them!.
