G'day. I will be travelling from Bribie Island Qld to Broken Hill end of May 2016 and towing my 21.5 foot caravan. Can anyone who has travelled the road as per subject line advise on the road's suitably for caravans. Mine is only semi off-road. Best Regards Adrian
The Kidman Way from Bourke to Cobar is a bitumen highway as is the Barrier Hwy from Cobar through Wilcannia to Broken Hill. There's lots of wildlife around including herds of goats so keep an eye out. Between Bourke & Cobar is Curraweena Rest Area a lovely spot to stop overnight well away from the highway. Between Cobar & Broken Hill, Meadow Glen & Spring Hills Rest Areas are both good. Lots of people stay at ''Warrawong on the Darling'' just a few kms outside of Wilcannia, a very popular spot with good reason.

Our land abounds in Nature's gifts, of beauty rich & rare. We'll be out there enjoying it somewhere, camped by ourselves much of the time.
It will be interesting to read the post regarding the river road from Bourke to Willcannia though Louth.
It was September 2002 we were last down that road and before that I had used it in the early eighties with my semi taking frieght to Adelaide, I don't believe there was any changers in that periid of time except change of Police Officer and Publican. Things move prettty slow out that way.
The best part of the last time down that way was being able to my time and enjoy the journey and no time frame.
The road from Bourke to Cobar was not sealed and if it looked like rain we needed to travel via Nyngan adding hours to our trip times. All part of the job.
Another vote for Warrawong on the Darling as a stopover. Travelled Sydney Murray River to BH then Sydney last Nov in my MH . The goats seem smarter than the Roos as the goats walk away from the road not onto it!

Haha, I wish I could say the same for the cattle. We hit one about 15K East of Emmdale. You definitely need to be on your toes if you travel that road after dark.

When you get to Bourke go into the Tourist Office at the old Rail Station and inquire about the road conditions along the river run to Wilcannia.
This road is unsealed but is easily traversed when it is dry plus you follw the Darling all the way.
We have done this in our conventional van (Jayco Freedom Poptop) without any trouble however it did take us several days as there are many great camps to be had plus the very friendly people at Louth and Tilpa. We camped at Tilpa weir where some great Yellowbelly were caught .
Just reduce tyre pressures and drive to the conditions.

I see it's a while since you have been to Bourke. The info centre is located in the Back O' Bourke Exhabition Centre. You will find it on the Kidman Way between Bourke and North Bourke.
