Does any intrepid traveller know of a road side stop (free camp) within an hour of the m7 going into Sydney from the south or alternatively just over the Hawkesbury travelling north ,I've heard that Mooney Mooney rest stop can be fine or a knock on the door and a get moving.
We are then making our way up the coast so next stop hopefully for a free camp will be around Raymond terrace.
hi the stop next to the hawskberry river is very popular and you shoulnt have any problems overniting there ,and they have just put a new toilet block in,usually 5 6 vans tere most nights very congested on weekends with boaties and the likes but usually fine thru the week ,im a local and you shoulnt have any problems with council now.

I know a lot use the boat trailer parking bays at the boat ramp on the northern end of the Hawksberry River Bridge. Warning though, the road noise M1 with the number of semi trailers, will not give you a good nights sleep.
I would imagine that weekends would be heavy with lots of boat activity, Plus there is / or was an Ambo Station there as well. The Coppers rest their as well, for a pit stop.
I would be looking past Mt White turn off to cut down on the noise, an extra 10km say.
From south heading north . Turn left just after bridge then go back down the pacific highway ( old bridge ). Turn first left on south side . There is a an elect substation in there with plenty of parking . Or keep going up M1 till you get close to Toukley . Another option is "Pye in the Sky" on Pacific Highway Cowan .. Plenty of parking there also .,
There is a very large truck parking area at Berowra it's on the old Pacific Highway but only a short distance to get back on the M1
At the area is very large it's very easy to park well away from the trucks.
If coming from the south just take the Berowra exit, continue past the shops and just as the highway splits to go back onto the M1, the rest area is on the left, this is also the exit you would take if you wanted to stop at Pie in the Sky, as this spot is on the old highway as you head down to the Hawkesbury River.
If any of these places don't suit just stay on the old Highway as it winds its way to Gosford you will be able to find a quiet spot to stop overnight at many places along this road.
There are a number of exits along this road if you wish to get back onto the M1
After these places I would be looking at continuing on to Bulahdelah were the Lions Club has set up a free camping spot right by the bridge again your on the old highway as Bulahdelah has now been bypassed
Cheers
David
