PayPal and phising.

Both Joy and myself have received emails supposedly from PayPal requesting the message below.  The messages look "real" except they only give our christian name and not surname.

PayPal say all messages from them will include our first and last names but not so in these messages.

We decided to both contact PayPal Australia at their site where you forward messages which you suspect may be 'phising' emails and they say yes or no. Both sent on separate dates.

So far, 2 weeks later nothing heard from PayPal - so you wonder just how safe it is etc.

My question is has anyone else received messages which ask the below:

Add our new email address to your safe senders list.

I get on average about 3 emails a week purporting to be from PayPal. I delete them on site unless I have just made a purchase using paypal. Anything you need to know about your account is best accessed via their website
https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/home

And you should never click on a link from an email or anywhere else you don't know where the link will take you.

Hello hako
Whenever I get any sort of (what could remotely be) a dodgy email, in regards to financial transactions, such as PayPal. I immediately go to another computer and email (PayPal) directly. And quote word for word what the dodgy email says.

I also always pay immediately when I buy something from eBay, and only use PayPal, this method of payment does not give the white collar crime people time to ask me for my particulars.

I have never received an email asking me to put their address on my safe senders list

I also agree with 03 Troopy, and never click on any attachment in an email.

Thanks for the replies.

We are fully aware that you never click on links but the point I am trying to make is that PayPal are not answering our emails....they say if you suspect 'phising' to forward them the email which we do but never have received a reply.....so we never know if the messages are real.

They have a 1800 number but is that also suspect?

I received that email. It sounds to be OK, but I still didn't respond as they asked me to. I think that if they want me to change something, they can ask me and I will then log into Paypal or Ebay myself and then do it, certainly not via an independant route such as this.

I receive that Email every couple of weeks, and I have had a Pay Pal account.

Not me 03 Troopy though I must admit I always think is it legit ? Or not ,you never know . Best to leave it alone and just bin it .
Went to the PayPal site yesterday and they didn't ask for anything extra so all good .
You never know nowadays who's who .

Ring PayPal and voice your concern. It's an Australian site. I had to ring them once over a transaction and they were great; reversed everything and were quicker than the bank.

I often get emails purporting to be from Paypal which tell me they are about to close my account with them because I'm not using the service enough or alternately offering free postage/delivery.

I just ignore the msgs and don't have a problem when I do go to use Paypal.
