I avoid using Facebook when away. Updating locations and happy hour photos is a sure indication that your home is empty. Its not just your Facebook friends that can see your posts it is the friends of friends that I worry about. After one break-in I am paranoid.
My husband writes a diary each day and I take photos which always have dates. It's a big job sorting when you get home so not the perfect solution. I'm looking forward to hearing what others suggest.
Hi Geoff, I think a blog is the way to go. The basic blog is Blogger, then there is Wordpress (which I use). This is probably better if you decide to get more involved at a later date.
You can chose to share with as many (or as few as you wish). With a blog you can start by just adding a few words, then add a photo as you become more confident, then you can add a map, a link to a web page, a video.
There are lots of videos on youtube to help you get started.
The best bit is you can go back and update anything, fix bad spelling, add extra photos, add extra to the post once you get home and have a better internet connection
You can even add stuff and edit the date to fit your timeline (this is the No.1 thing to master), just hover over date when editting or click on it, different programs do it differently.
Check out my blog from the link below. I have only being doing it for just over twelve months, you will see how I have improved (hopefully)
