Inflatable Kayak Motor

We have been looking for a suitable motor for our inflatable, this is the one we chose. It is a 4 stroke 1.5 HP air cooled and weighs only 8 KG, had a few problems with the mounting of the motor, when plan A turned out a disaster we moved on to plan B which is spot on. We have been for a test run, could not believe the performance of such a small motor, it will give us the opportunity to venture further a field especially on the rivers and billabongs etc. Bessie.

Hi DeBe, Thanks, bought the motor on Ebay, price $465  if you just type in (outboard motor) you should have no trouble to locate the supplier he resides in NZ the paper work that came with the motor mentions Honda even though the motor has no branding on it, in saying that it seems to be fairly well built, starts usually on the second pull. We are more than happy with it so far. Regards Bessie.

Yep, silly woody  smile

Looks like a whipper snipper. Great little motor though but how far would you get on that little fuel tank Bessie?

I saw one recently with small electric motor that moved along nicely. Also ones with little sails rigged up.

Hi Dougwe, yes it is no bigger than a whipper snipper has a 650 ml fuel tank and will run approx 1 hour 15 minutes on a tank full. We thought about an electric motor, decided that we had enough batteries as it is to worry about, no sails but this motor is so powerful that I am coming to Greens Lake next summer to take you water skiing. Bessie.

Thanks Bessie, that will be great. I tried getting up on skis behind the one with a sail but with no success. I am usually good at skiing too.

Oops, that's a different skiiing, Spending Kids Inheritance.

I used to have a 12' fibreglass canadian for which I made an outboard bracket and mounted a 2hp Yamaha. it performed really well and gave me 2 hours on one tank (1.2 L). Back then there weren't any inflatable outboards so it was quite heavy (around 9kgs) in comparison. The canadian was also rigged for sailing using two leeboards, again it performed really well. Best tip, always sit at the rear, that way SWMBO wears the spray.
