As I am new to the Forum I am not aware of its general use to assemble / coordinate small travelling groups ie two or three couples to provide a higher level of personal safety and security for certain sections of a trip eg Great Central Highway, Plenty Highway, the last 300km section to the tip of Cape York.
I have used these examples as my wife and I are headed to Cairns / Cape York in a few months and at this stage cannot coordinate or convince our usual travelling buddies to do this particular trip. I am not suggesting a convoy arrangement but a loose emergency assist arrangement where vehicles would be within say 10 kilometers of each other ie CB coverage distance. Tighter grouping may be appropriate based on mutual agreement.
Obviously the details would have to be worked out off-line.
Is this use of the Forum practicable or is it too problematic with respect to privacy issues.
3 vehicles will have 3 times as much trouble as one vehicle, so everyone gets inconvenienced 3 times as much compared to travelling on your own at your own pace and stopping where and when you want to. None of the roads you mention are remote in any real sense and all get plenty of traffic.
Hi rob, we were up there in june / july 2015. wether you do the OTT or the development road or a combination of both you won't be on your own, in our experience people will stop and help if required. It is not the desolate outpost it was in 1991. your biggest problem will be the time poor tourist , going like hell. Give it a crack mate its worth it.
Not on y our own on any of those routes. The GCR is a busy road, or was in late June when we crossed in 2013. Plenty not so much traffic butsafe & the Cape- plenty of traffic. GCR, maybe hire or buy a sat phone! Just enjoy all roads.
