Navigating this Forum Site

Hello to all Grey Nomads

I hope that this is the site for this type of post

As a newbie I was finding it a little difficult to navigate around this site, as I am not normally a member of any forum.

I sincerely hope that I am not standing on any toes. I have put together some of the navigation tips which I came across from reading other members posts.

As at this particular period in time, I do not know what I do not know.

I am hoping that some of the more knowledgeable members will fill in the rest of the gaps.

What I have found in alphabetical order

Just before you submit a new tropic, place a click in the (lower left of page) where it says

An --- Insert/Edit link --- window appears paste your link into the --- Link URL --- box

Select Open Link in New Window in the --- Target box ---

Dougwe post # 11268

Click on --- Search --- in the blue band (between the merchandise and posts  --- click within the search box which appears --- type in the word of information you are searching for eg solar or battery --- if there is a topic with that name in the heading it will show up

I did read one post (dated around 2011) which mentioned that there was a --- Posting How To ---  link, near the Submit button, but I could not find it while I was experimenting, (err playing around) on my original Introduction topic post. I now find it while I am submitting this post, but it is only about HTML and not about navigating the site

You can simply paste a URL into the Quick Reply box. It will be automatically "linkified". Sometimes there are special characters which mess up the linkification, in which case you will need to use the Advanced Editor.

This forum's search engine is abyssmally poor. It gives at most 5 results. A much better way to search this forum is via Google's Advanced Search.

https://www.google.com.au/advanced_search

Alternatively you can simply replace "%s" with your search term(s) in the following URL:

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=%s+site:thegreynomads.activeboard.com

For example ...

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=solar+OR+battery+site:thegreynomads.activeboard.com

Hello Dorian

Thank you for that advice, it has been appreciated. This is something that I was not aware of, and I am sure that it will be very useful for others and myself in the future.

Comments regarding the functionality of the site should be welcome. In fact the reason that URLs are automatically linkified in the Quick Reply box is because I contacted the software developer(s) and requested the feature.

Should be..... totally agree, then I supose there are so many viewing ths web site who have so much time on there hands they link nothing better than scrolling page after page to find the info they want.  IMHO the search on this forum only works well if you search the exact phrase that was posted.
