As we are heading for Lightning Ridge in about three weeks and then on to Cairns I was certainly interested in this subject.

However while I can find Burrum Town, Burrum Heads, and the Burrum River but alas no Burrum Junction.

Hi Fiddlestix, was there last year great place, very lay-back. You'll nead a bit of time to do the place justice, do the "black hand mine" and all "the door tours self drive ". If staying in CP would recommend Opal Caravan Park. I believe there's good free camping out of town . We'll be back there in April, leaving central Victoria easter heading up NSW coast to Byron Bay. Turn left for a while the back home through Lightning Ridge.
Cheers have a great time. Owen.

Another vote for the Opal CP.
We had a couple of weeks there last May and liked it so much we went back in July for the annual Opal Fest, and stayed another 3 weeks.
As well as the tours mentioned above, you can do a day trip out to the fields at the Grawin and visit the Club in the Scrub, Sheepyard Inn and Glengarry Hilton - pub crawl with a difference! Can also noodle on the huge dump out there.

Excellent free camp at Cumborah - on the way to the Pubs in the scrub. Very good sealed road out to there and then down to Walgett. Pubs road is not sealed but ok!
