HI every one just wondering if any one has a 27FT EVERGREEN 5TH WHEELER and what is it like we have a jayo silver line 21/65/3 with a pull out at the moment ,towed with a 2015 ranger , and it is very hard to to get in and out of the bed as there's very little room at the sides
so was wondering about the evergreen as they can be towed by a mid size ute
Hi Bob,
We were interested in getting a 5th wheeler, but ended up getting a Silverline instead. If i had the money, I would have pursued that dream. Salesmen talking, do not, I repeat do not believe a word they say. Do your sums very carefully, and do your sums on the weights.
I brought a Mazda BT50 (Ranger) with the aim of towing a fifth wheeler, but even a smaller one (5 wheeler) required the fitting of air bag suspension. But with the Silverline, it looks like new springs and shocks all round.
There are a couple of problems with 5 wheelers, even though they tow nice (apparently), one problem is the lack of storage space, as the unit sits over the tray. Another is in order to keep the weight off the tow vehicle, they move the units wheels forward. Now the self stabilizing effect of a 5th wheeler is just that, having the wheels well to the rear, if they move them forward, then they can loose that stability.
Another problem is that with the hitch to suit a well body ute, the bedroom (typical) has to be accessed by steps or ladder, not good for oldies.
There were two companies that made 5wheelers using a different hitch (ball), and they had very little height difference between levels. They were Southern Cross, now out of business, and Trulux.
I suggest you have a look at the Trulux site, as they have a storage system under the floor, as well as very little height difference over the hitch.

Hi Bob, I have a evergreen 5th wheeler and my father has a Jayco 21/65/3 (only for 3 weeks). Both are cmpletely different, but both are very well set out vans. The beds are the parts of both vans that could be better, but it is a compromise that we must live with. You can't stand up in the Ultima, but the slideout must be out to extend the bed and access the bathroom in the Jayco. Weight will be a problem with both of them if you take everything. The reese revolution pin box with the Ultima is a must if you have a twin cab. I would have an Iveco Daily if I replaced my tow vehicle.
do you find the bed in the silver line is hard to get off ? (no room at the sides ) they SHOULD have left the false walls
out that contain the cubbey holes each side of the bed and gained an extra 18 ins in the bedroom , and if they put a wider slid out in you could have side tables each side of the bed witch would be a lot better then the useless cubby holes
Yes the bed is a bit of a squeeze for the oldies, just as the corners in the furniture are very sharp. Did you get the 24ft model with the club lounge?
I am presently having weight and balance problems with Jayco. If you have the 24.75 model, what are the weights as stamped on the compliance plate please.
I did a lot of work on 5 wheelers, and came up with a pretty good floor plan, just couldn't come up with the money!

no we have the 21.ft6 with a front club lounge the bed room is the same size in bouth models we checked , the other 3 feet is in the kitchen and the bathroom not Shure what balance your referring to ?ours is 3.2 ton loaded and 300kg on the ball with 3 tanks of water we had our compliance plate restamped from the factory as it is quite common for jaycos to be over the stamped weight with extra water and sat tv and 2x solar panels
it appears that NEW evergreens are no longer avalable due to the low Australian $$$

You can't stand up in the bedroom. This is generally not a problem if two people make the bed. It is easy to get along the edge of the bed on your knees to make it. My wife has a bad back and while she can climb in and out of bed easily, making the bed she has to be careful, with the kneeling and twisting, she has to be careful.. I was not aware that they were not importing them anymore, it would be a shame. Having to put the slideout out would be a pain if you stop for lunch and there are no other toilets
