Hi Graham,

I just looked at the water hose 20m with 12mm dia. @ $25 with no fittings. Does this sound good value as We have used the plain old garden hose in the pass. Is the inside 12mm dia standard for this type of hose.confuseconfuseconfuse I don't want to be caught again twice in one week, or I will gain a new nick name on here.hmm

The van levellers look a bit weak IMO for a tandum van of 2000kg +.

Jim

Went to our local Aldi at 9am and the camping chairs had gone as had most of the caravanning gear. Drove to the next store and managed to pick up 2 chairs from the last box available (4 per box). The chair appears to be very god quality.

I got a roll of the water hose.  Checked out hose at bunnings and it looked the same. Bunnings price approx. $42 for the same length.

We rolled up at 8 a.m. - opening time. Car park packed (admittedly, most of it was full of construction gear). Managed to score the lights and a step.

I got lucky, spotted lights straight off and asked a (lovely) gentleman to pass me a pack, which he did. Then I bolted! Hubby made a bee-line for the steps as they were being unboxed, and had a bit of a battle scoring the last one (Aldi guy was passing it to him, someone else tried to take it off both of them. Aldi guy stood his ground, lifted the box over his head & eventually gave it to hubby).

My first experience of shopping as a competitive sport, and I did not like it!

Not just Aldi though - look at the Boxing Day sales!  As I said to hubby, if there were food shortages, and people were starving, I could begin to understand.  But these are (generally) luxury items, or stuff that can be picked up elsewhere.  Granted, the prices may not be quite as good (like the lights we got), but there is no need to lose your humanity/dignity over stuff. Because that's all it is - stuff.

Had we not gotten the lights, I would have been annoyed, but I can safely say, I wouldn't have engaged in a tug-of-war/shoving match for them.  I could have shoved my way in front of others to get them - there was a small gap, enough room for me to get in, but I chose to take my chances, and ask someone to pass me a set out.  Getting squished to the point of major panic attack in the quest for a set of LED lights (or anything else) is not on my list of things to do before I'm dead..............

Rosie - youre a true lady - more than can be said for many females these days - god, everytime I go into a supermarket I feel I need steel capped boots, leggings, cricket pouch and crash helmet! Some are busy trying to get shopping, looking the other way as they roar down the isles screaming at their kids or suddenly screech to a halt in front of you.

I almost feel like I need a Valium before I go into these bedlams!!! Nice to shop in the evenings, but by then most fresh stock - bread, fruit, veges and meat have gone

I got the directors chair from Tamworth Aldi at lunchtime. No frantic rush and bustle, just at a leisurely stroll.

Wanted to have a look at the $179 21.5" TV/DVD player to see if it was 12 volt; not stated in catalogue and a call to Aldi for further details didn't help.

None on show at store as stock was out the back (pays to ask).

No details on the box, but all was revealed when opened as the first thing I saw was the 12 volt plug; 12V was confirmed in the instruction book.

Bought their $35 antennae as well, hooked it all up, but found that I needed another aerial lead; one with a screw-in attachment at one end, to fit to aerial socket inside van, and a push-in fitting at the other end of the lead, to connect to the TV.

Used the lead supplied to connect the actual aerial to the aerial fitting on the exterior of the van, but need that other lead with a screw-in attachment at one end ( to fit to aerial fitting inside van) and a push-in fitting at the other end (to connect to the TV).

Took a shortcut and it works well with the aerial lead running through the open doorway.

Off to Jaycar this morning to get the only thing not supplied - an aerial lead with a screw-in fitting at one end and a push-in fitting at the other end (hope there is such a lead).

Yes, Robshep - there are such leads. The screw in type is called 'F59' plug (or socket) and has been the preferred standard in the TV industry for some time. Several caravan parks I have been in have the screw in socket on the wall of the en suite. At NRMA Merimbula they also have the F59 socket on the power mushrooms.

There is also an adaptor - old style push on to F59 - that you can buy to save buying a complete lead. Jaycar have them but I don't have my Jaycar catalog handy to give you the part number.

Murray

PS: The F59 plug leads are available with either male or female ends - check before you buy!

Hi, I wandered in to the Penrith store about 9am, among other things, I purchased the drinking water hose. I didn't take notice of the scanning at the time, got out to the car & realised I was overcharged ($29.95 instead of sale price $24.95). I'm sure I would not have been the first to purchase, but I was the first to let them know.

Thanks for info, Long Weekend.

Mentioned problem to two caravanning friends and learned that they both have replaced their ariels with the bells & whistles variety.

They both have surplus leads like I'm chasing, and as an added bonus, one has a telescopic pole that he no longer needs.

I'm off around to his place, as soon as I locate my ever-hiding car keys.
