Ponto Falls near Wellington NSW

Hi Folks,

Just been enjoying Ponto Falls campsite, South of Dubbo, 15kms north of Wellington NSW

Camps 8 -No.886 -32.27.57S, 148.49.12 E. This hasn't been mentioned for a few years by the look of it, but is still a great spot. Only about 5kms off the highway on a good gravel road

Camp right beside the clear fairly fast flowing McQuarie river, or alternatively up on the top of the high bank, good Sunny or Shady spots there for a few hundred metres. Good for internet, phone & dogs. Not much in the way of facilities apart from one long drop dunny and a a few bins. Dump point in Wellington 15-20 kms away. 14 day limit. Great for paddling, bathing, or kayaking, but don't lose hold of anything that floats or it will disappear quickly! Don't know where the 'falls' are, but in February at least this section is clear beautiful water, more than knee deep at the edge. Could be a popular swimming hole during School holidays I suspect, and gets busy at weekends. Currently only the ducks and ****atoos and 4 other rigs here!

Have to say in passing this is a very useful section of the forum, and I agree with older comments on Ariah Park and Gum Bend lake in early 2016 which are still true as per tips given by chums at Greens, and I can recently confirm that these are also great spots to hang out!

Camped here for 2 nights last week. Very nice spot and will definately use it again when travelling thru. It is a bit smelly from the cow dung but the toilet is well maintained and kept clean by the shire. Rod.
