I just fix a thicker cable to the positive lead( red ) but the negative( black) is a bit thinner

do you think is fine?

Depends on load ? Generally you'll be fine as long as connections are clean and tight . Some graphite electrical grease helps ..

 Is use of this grease OK Aus-Kiwi?....I've just been advised not to use it on Anderson connectors.  Is it OK to use on bolted connections?
