2016 Camper Van Fridges

Howdy, this is your President :)

As I want to be living in my Campers while ever I am able to drive, hopefully for the next 30 years at least :) I want to be totally self sufficient.

So therefore I will be needing a fridge, I have this one in mind http://www.seabreeze-industries.com.au/products/Waeco-CFX65-Portable-Fridge-Freezer-Summer-Pack-548.htm

I was thinking of the Dual Zone version, however me thinks seeing I'm only going to be traveling the East Coast, from the Mid North Coast in the Summers to the Wide Bay region of Qld in winter.

98% of the time though I dare say I will be Camping close to or within city limits.

So I'm wondering if a fridge of this capacity will be indeed over kill for mostly just 1 person???

It may seem big to some, however the reason I'm thinking of purchasing it is in case the rare event occurs I  ever get ( preferable not) a live in travel companion :)

Also, I'm thinking it would be better to go as big as one could fit into his / her camper, as it would mean, being able to store as much food as possible, therefore less trips to the supermarket???

And going on the looks of the capacity description pic, it does not appear to store that much anyway???

Am seriously needing as much as possible feedback, so therefore I can make informed decision ad to what I should be really buying :)

Dont hold back guys :)

Cheers

I quite like the Trailblazer Fridges made on the Sunny Coast. www.norcoast.com.au. Especially the solar friendly ones with double the insulation. (Less solar panels needed). I find that travelling next to the coast you don't need a big fridge as there are supermarkets everywhere. I just buy what I need, when I need it and enjoy the walk and process to get it. Take care, Krusty.

Ron, in your situation I would be seriously looking at the standard caravan 3 way Frig say the 90Lt unit with small freezer that can be run on Gas mainly but has 12v and 240vac options as well. May be able to pick up a second hand unit or the larger 110Lt unit. Mounted in a cabinet you can use the bench above the frig for.....

You will need a friend with a gas licence to do the install.

To me the Waeco's need sola or your free camping is limited.

Peter

When you are full time on the road I think it is more efficient to have solar 12volt fridge than a gas one
I could be wrong

 Krusty,

Thanx for the input :)

I had a look at those fridges, however they seem to be pretty big on external diameter? And the price? At around $2000 is like twice as much as what I'm paying for the Waeco CFX65.

The website info seems a bit cheap, minimal pricing Etc?

Do you know if there is a comparison site Norcoast vs Waeco fridges?

I'm only a Disability Pensioner, therefore my budget is limited as to what I can afford on my 6 monthly loans from Centrelink ($1100 odd every 6 months)

My objective of a large Waeco CFX65 Fridge, generally I will always be in close proximity of towns, however there may be the odd occasion I might venture out to a State Forest etc for a coupla weeks, also in case There is the 1 in a Million chance I can ever find a Woman of the right caliber to want to come travel with me :) so therefore, me finks purchasing a fridge bigger then my basic needs might be a good investment? Am I thinking smart? :)

Cheers :)

Peter, Thanx for the input :)

My Rig is only a 1999 Mazda E2000 LWB,  therefor I only have limited space, my bed base consumEs 2400 mm of the rear, which could well accomodate 2 people if need be, at the top of the bed head sits my Arkpak 730 battery box, and beside that, I have a dedicated space to fit a Waeco CFX65, however I stil am required to cut into the bed base by 100mm just to accomodate the Waeco.

I can only presume a caravan fridge has a swinging door, instead of a top lid?

Unfortunalty a fridge of this caliber would not really be suitable.

I will also be having solar. & dual battery system,  atm I have 1 X 250 watt Panal, which will be connected to the Arkpak fitted with a SSB 130 amp Dual Purpose battery, failing this set up does not meet my needs, I have also enough room to fit another 250 watt panal & also a 260 amp SSB Dual Purpose battery.

Cheers :)

Hi Ron, Everyone has their own ideas but mine is don't have much stuff but make sure the quality is the best. The bigger the fridge the bigger solar panels you have to buy to run it, the bigger batteries you have to buy, then more weight in the van, then more fuel and wear and tear on the van etc etc the Trail Blazers have more insulation (bigger dimensions) so they don't have to work as hard, so less solar panels to run it, less batteries etc etc. Just my opinion though. It's just how I Roll, take care, Krusty. PS, in relation to the Chick thing, sorry but I'm not going there. ;)

Hi Ron, Have done your setup, both on land & water & have found some of the best equipment in boating catalogues. Whitworths & Bias both have good products. If there is one check your local boat chandlery. Have to think a little outside the square & adapt to suit. Bill
