Recently we saw a couple pull up at a site opposite us and they went about setting up their whole outfit. After a while the man went and plugged his lead in and found out after a lot of checking that his outlet on the power pole was out of order and everything else on the pole was taken. So off he goes to the office to tell the manager.
The upshoot is that the caravan park owner wasn't aware the pole was faulty and the people had to move to another site which involved a pack up and hook up to the car and move. The park owner quickly tagged the pole as out of order and within about 45 minutes he had an electrician on site who sorted it out so he was at least responsive to the problem. It still didn't save the poor people from having to move.
I reckon after seeing that I am going to try and start hooking the power up fairly soon after we get the van on site just to check all is good as moving could be a pain in the neck.
Just thought I might pass this on as I think it is a pretty good idea.
Yep that is the first thing I do, more so that I can take the power to fridge away from my Ute but also to check for power, I listen for the microwave as I turn the power on, no beep then no power, check post and if still no power then get out power drill and check the power at the pole. I have been caught before, more at Showgrounds than caravan parks
likewise - like Dave and brickies, we always do the power first and see the 3 way fridge light has switched to 240v, then the water (make sure its clean by running the tap for a few seconds - some haven't been used for a while and the water will be brown with rust) and finally the sullage. Then its time to do all the other stuff. If its raining, at least you have power and water and not reliant on batteries and how much water is left in your tanks
