Only draw back is that you only get 28days of credit, so every 28 days you have recharge, where Boost is every 30days. Otherwise not a bad deal. Telstra needed to do something.

I went with Aldi pre paid as they use the Telstra network and you can get 365 days for credit expiry.

Yes a valid point as over a year it would add up to a monthly cycle.

Yes I took that into consideration and still decided that I will go with the Freedom Plus as I am an in between type user and always have a stack of Data unused but need the unlimited calls and texts so it will suit me better I think.

It is clear that each person has different needs and it is good if you can find a plan that is suitable and at a reasonable price. Telstra has never been big in the "reasonable price " stakes but they are sure getting better.

Telstra also have a new plan for Pre Paid Mobile Broadband that may suit light internet users as it is only $50 for 5Gb and lasts a year. You need a dongle to connect your phone to.

I can never understand the need for a Dongle as well as a mobile phone.

We use our mobile to connect a laptop or ipad to the net via wireless hotspot.

Yes you can use your mobile and use the tethering to connect your tablet to the internet.

You would need a Dongle if you only had one mobile phone and the Data plan was on a separate Sim .

If you are on a combined Data and Voicecall Plan with only one Sim then you would not need a Dongle

Remember Boost and Aldi use Telstra old network , Not the new Telstra network so remember it is not the same has todays Telstra network

Aldi may have a lesser coverage but Boost uses the same network as Telstra.

Maybe you can provide a link to the information you are saying about Boost as I know many Boost customers would be disappointed to find out that your information is correct.

Our usage pattern gets us to the limit long before the 28 days, so not an issue for us. To get the most out of Boost, you need to have that SIM activated over 4 weekends. Only a management problem for people like us with multiple mobile devices. We are going to try a Boost SIM net month just to see how it works out.

Boost website suggests you can get a 4G compatible service but less than 4GX speed. My iPhone is only good for 3G and the speed difference to 4G/4GX is noticeable. Casual browsing on 3G is fast enough for me but ABC iView seems much better on 4G. There is still a lot of 3G, no4G, coverage in country areas.

My nephew is a computer tec in north queensland and has a Telstra work rhone and Boost oersonal phone and told me and said there are places where he has telstra coverage but no boost coverage , And he was told telstra hire out there old network because they don't use it no more .

HI Brickies, it would be good if you can provide a link to the information your nephew has, as from information available on the WWW, it shows that Boost do use the Telstra full network minus the 4GX.

Hi Brickies what can happen is that different phones can also get very different reception so it is hard to compare phones and reception.

Some telstra customers will get a faster internet speed on the 4GX band but the 4G and 3G mobile phone coverage is the same on Telstra and Boost.

I was in a spot the other day and I got a text message to say I was in a 4G only area so my Iphone 4 ( 3G only not 4G ) would not work even for emergency calls.

This was with Telstra

I have no connection with either except that I read what I can to make sure I give as least money as possible to either Telstra or anyone else <G>.

If this thread can help others choose a better plan then I am vey happy.

Some post paid plans vary in the cost per Gb. Lowest cost per Gb some time ago was an 8 Gb plan. Cheaper to have two mobile devices with modest data allowances than one large data plan. The other thing I wanted was a plan or device that went shaped when the nominal data allowance ran out. Got caught once on the phone plan when excess data of 280Mb cost me more than the basic plan. One high value feature of a prepaid data pack is that you can use the whole allowance without worrying about going over and incurring excess data charges.

As previously disclosed, we use a fair bit of mobile data. Currently working on the idea of buying a new pre paid SIM each time, rather than doing a recharge. My latest SIM cost $30 and came with 5Gb bonus data. If I recharge that specific SIM, I get 2.6Gb for $30. That's going by the web site. I need to check my understanding at the Telstra shop before deciding which way to go.

There is an option to setup a regular payment via credit card or bank transfer and as part of that, you set the payment to a specific day of each month. Using this feature, you only incur 12 monthly payments, even for 31 day months.
