Hi all;

       As for oled / 4k televisions. The only manufacture at the moment is LG and about 55" is the smallest screen size, so way to big for a caravan ( unless you have a very BIG caravan ) . Cost would also be a big factor.

If I was you i would have a good look at the Kogan brand, cost wise and for back up if you have a problem. 12 Volt as well. While i don't have a kogan other members seem to find them ok.

Good luck with your search !!

 We bought a Kogan with a DVD player in it. Cost around $170. Been working fine for the past 4 years. We weren't after surround sound or anything, who needs that in a caravan? Very happy with ours, picture's as good as anything getting around.

About the best of a bad bunch I have found is Palsonic. they have a 21.5" and a 23.5" for around $300, that will run off 12V You won't find too many top brands that make 12V TVs unfortunately.

TV 22

TV 22" 12v/240v VAST Altech UEC integrated LED/LCD HD AL-22TVCM421PVR

Not cheap but we use this as it is compact with  USB for recording and Vast Satellite receiver integral with the TV.   We can use it anywhere With the Sat Dish or the Standard Antenna.

Currently TVs are available in four resolutions.

Standard, Hi Definition, Full High Definition, Ultra Hi Definition.

Almost no-one is broadcasting anything other than standard definition with the occasional Hi Definition movie. Having a 4K (ultra) TV will not make any difference to your broadcast reception and viewing quality.

There is no broadcasting of any Full Hi Def or Ultra Hi Def in Australia as the transmission bandwidth is not available with current technologies. Full and Ultra are for connecting up BlueRay players.

Think of buying a car capable of 300kph but the only place you can drive it is in local 60kph streets. Bit of a waste of money.

The O in OLED is for Organic. Manufacturers are pushing the 'Cleaner for the environment' by using 'Organic' materials cr@p. There is no difference in quality of manufacture, veiwing or cost.

The benefits of LED over LCD in general is:- sharper (smaller dot pitch), brighter (good for higher ambient light environments, eg outside), faster response (less blur in fast moving images), far lower power consumption.

Hi Brickies

Not really small sizes are there yet in 4k
What I've seen is 40 inch as the smallest size
maybe an LG 27MU67 27in monitor with a 4k setup box???

Cheers John

Just one small point on the difference between LED TVs and LCD TVs. The LCD TVs have a Liquid Crystal Display which is backlit by flourescent tubes, where a LED TV has a Liquid Crystal Display backlit by LEDs. So LED TVs are less power hungry.

I like Dougwes reply... And am off to the naughty corner too for what I want to say.

Back on topic I think go for both OLED and UHD. We use UHD here at home base for streamed movies and you really can see the difference.

The set we have will upscale SD and HD too so look out for this feature.

We're setting up a library for on the road - burning all our box sets onto a USB drive.

Need a new caravan too - what is CELL like?

Hi Terry

That's only a question of time before we see 4K on tv

In 8 or 10 years from now that 4K will be obsolete

By that time we have even better systems

Regards John

Hi Brickies;

                When you are talking about a new television, are we talking for the caravan ???? OR are we talking about for the main television in the house ( lounge room ). Both have there own set of requirements, size, 12 Volt, HDMI or component input, even the old composite video input all play a important part in what you require and what equipment you want to interconnect to your set.

Yes and our eyes will compensate,,, so in effect the definition should stay the same as we age,,,lol.
