If you don't follow AFL, then you won't get it.

It's about drugs and doping, probably one of the biggest sporting scandals in Aust. history, involving the Essendon Bombers!!

This awful saga has now gone on for 3 years.

34 players are banned for 1 year, leaving Essendon Bombers with a team of 12 remaining.

This will end many players careers.

Also talk of players counter suing Club, and discussions whether Jobe Watson will lose his Brownlow Medal - for best and fairest.

ASADA - Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority

WADA - World Anti Doping Authority

RE: The Essendon Bombers new song - Bananas in Pyjamas

I think they should put the hiraki of the club in jail
Most likely the players had to do what they were been told without losing their job
We have not heard the end of it

couldn't agree more.

Many of the club hierarchy are also at fault, they should be banned.

For 3 years Hird's said, "I know the truth, one day the truth will come out".

So this was the perfect opportunity to speak out and save the players, and what did he do? Hid inside his Toorak mansion all day.

Every professional player is responsible for what goes into their bodies, I can't believe that 34 sportsmen never once questioned the drug regime they were given.

I feel sorry for their families and kids.

When Patrick Ryder left Essendon (totally disgusted at what happened), his wife was heavily pregnant, and they were nervous wrecks about their unborn child.

I don't think this is the end, rumours of everyone suing each other.

Go the Blues - Carlton!!

Both. All players are informed during their inductions, about drugs, alcohol, attitude, behavour etc., and this training is on-going during their careers.

No Club wants their players headlining the front page of the Herald Sun Newspaper. Because Melb. is footy crazy, one slip up and you're guaranteed front page lol lol.

Perhaps the young players trusted their Staff, but the older ones should have known better. Dustin Fletcher aged 40, Jobe Watson, Captain aged 30.

Bruce Reid their Club Doctor of many years, during 2013 wrote a letter to Officials. Should you be doing this? I don't agree? Don't go down this path, it's dangerous and we're putting the club at high risk. What if we get caught? He was either shut down or ignored, BUT he chose to do NOTHING.

They were taken off the premises (across the road), asked to sign "waivers" (mmmm surely they could smell the rat??), told to keep quiet, and there's no records of what was injected.

What kind of "Doctor" doesn't keep records?? The majority of people wouldn't accept this as "normal".

It wasn't a couple of jabs, the numbers are in their hundreds. Rumours of drugs sourced from Mexico, and horse stimulants were used.

David Zaharakis was the only player who refused the program, because he hates needles.

Caroline Wilson, a respected sport journalists relays a story, that Officials also joined the program. James Hird tried some injections for virility and youth, but couldn't leave the house for 2 days. I'll leave that up to your imagination, but it involved his "nether regions".

If needed, the sport "scientist's" name is Stephen Danks and he lives in Ascot Vale Melbourne. (IT'S A JOKE) lol lol lol.

Sadly, this could go on for ever. Jobe Watson may lose his Brownlow medal, there may be suing and counter suing. Will they be paid by their respective clubs or lose a years wages? So many issues to resolve.

I think about the future, WHAT IF, just WHAT IF a player gets a rare or mystery illness, or a baby is born with complications etc.

For you rugby fans, I'm almost certain Danks and his co worker (can't recall name right now) were the same 2 involved with the recent Rugby drug scandal, where players received suspensions.

don't you go to the doctor with an illness an he prescribes something an you take it  or do you spend time researching the prescribed medicine so you can decide if the doctor knows what he is talking about

but if you take the medication an it causes you to fail a roadside drug test you are still DUI no matter how much you cry

Then you have a right to sue the doctor for not telling you that you could fail a driving drug test.

Can you show us stats.showing how many have failed a drug test using properly prescribed medication?

you are assuming that he didn't tell you

an example for some people would be champix the quit smoking medication(?) works for some horrendous side effect for others plenty of warning in the small print

to compare the Club and Danks' relationship to the players with medical practitioners and their patients is nonsense.

You go to a GP because you are unwell or want preventative treatment (like a vaccination)

These players were not ill or needed preventative medical treatment. Despite claiming not to know what the drugs were (and I believe that part of their story), they would have known that it was to "make them better players" than other club players. If you have half a brain, you would be asking why the long serving (at that time) club doctor was not giving them the injections rather than a stranger to the club (Danks). And Hirds claim that he know nothing reminds me of Sgt Shultz off Hogans Heroes. As the senior coach at the time, he was responsible for all aspects of the players health, safety, training, welfare and ability on the field. To claim now it was other people "in the management team" is disingenuous to say the least

My source?  A combination of media, newspapers, TV, Melb. footy shows, sports reporters and my personal interest.

OMG Herald Sun's last 2 days was suppose to be Hird's truthful account of what happened.

I'm still laughing, the paper shredder makes good toilet paper for puppies.

Players were injected about 6 times a week into their tummy region.

More than once, players mentioned the injections were like cement going into their backsides!!

Ouch, memories of child birth lol lol.

Seriously, if it hurt that much, I wouldn't be going back for more!!

When Phil Walsh from Adelaide was murdered, Worsfold took over, and did an amazing job under stress.

He probably thought, Bomber's would be a piece of cake compared to Adelaide, and everyone was thinking, aahh we won't get banned, if so, just a month or 2.

Worsfold's probably scratching his head, sheesh, here we go again.

Every time the Bombers get deeper into trouble, their membership booms.  500 more joined a few days ago.

It seems wonderfully appropriate that the new coach of the Bombers is a pharmacist!

I think you'll find there's a reason no records were kept!! 6 stomach injections a week, in their words, felt like cement in their ass!! Not exactly vitamins lol.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

What an interesting topic.....

They are not the Lone Ranger, a lot, if not a vast majority of professional sports people ingest or inject, some form of enhancing drug.

Who cares ????

Hi Lesley,  you have confused me with the first 2 lines. "6 times a week in tummy's, cement going into their backsides." has to be one or the other. the trouble with this whole saga is misinformation generated by the media. I always thought there were 2 sides to every story.........   If you are wanting to see another view on whats happening, get on the internet, look up Bruce Francis & Essendon saga. Might change your view a bit. Thanks. Happy reading..
