G'day Wendy

do you currently have a satellite foxtel service at home?

If yes then you could do like we have been doing for the last 15 or so years. We added a dual output LNB and another cable into the van and connected to the foxbox with one cable and to the VAST box with the other. Connect to TV via video/audio cable to AV input and we have a choice of both.

The signals come from the same satellite so aim for VAST and fox will work.

Does that help?

Frank

Thank you Frank for immediate answer. We do not have Foxtel at home, but when we get on the road again, Brian really would like to watch his beloved Crows, and this appears to be the only way to reliably get the match as Vast has not always shown it  as expected. You may have more advice for us . Thank you again ,Wendy

Hi Wendy

with VAST traveller registration you can change the "viewing experience" as you travel by advising VAST of your location. You are not compelled to do this. If for example you can get the program you want to watch by telling them you are touring Victoria or WA then do that and leave it on that.

The only issue this will cause is time differences between states.

Then if you have a relative who has satellite fox you could pay for them to request a second box for another room and take the second box with you. If this is not do-able then you may need to have fox installed at home so you can have access to a box for travelling.

I hope I have written that in a way you can understand cuse I can get a bit too techy sometimes.

if you have more questions please feel free to ask away. I am happy to help.

Frank

Thank you Frank, I will only watch Foxtel for footy and prefer to use my existing LNB and existing cables to save bench space. Is this possible?.

Hi Wendy

Certainly you can watch just one box at a time, there is a switch you can get from Satplus that will switch between the two so you use only one cable and a single output LNB.

isolation.jpgWill that do what you want to do?

you will still need to apply to fox to get a service installed at home unless you have some other arrangement to get access to a box.

Frank

Just be aware that Foxtel apparently do not allow their units in mobile units like RV's.

But their staff in the shopping centres get commission on each sale - tell them you need one for your house - they will install the sat dish on your roof and then you just take the unit with you as Frank has described. Otherwise try a couple of their salespeople - one will help you but it will need to go down to your home address

Hi Wendy
We have taken our foxtel all around Australia and has been great. My daughter had foxtel at her house and we paid for it to be connected in a bedroom and then we take the box and pay her each month $15 for extra room. A lot of GN are doing the same
Take care Rod

Wendy, I spent 2 winters travelling and only used VAST. SA should be no different to WA with the footy it televises on free to air. WA always has the Dockers and Eagles on and I would expect that SA TV has Port and the Crows on TV7 or it's affiliate.

Just get VAST and register it to SA and you will get all the games.

You don't have to mess about with the other rubbish.

Thank yOu Phantom.

we have tried all that and not been able to get many matches of the Crows and Vast tell us that what is shown is what Vast CHOOSE to show, not necessarily what Channel 7 SA show. I find it awfully confusing and frustrating, not being a Techy!!

Wendy, VAST don't do any programming. They just provide access to the satellite. If you can't get the footy on the SA channels, you are doing something wrong.

HEllo Phantom,we have rung Vast so many times in past 2years about this. Colleen and Linda have told us that Vast choose to put certain things on and it is not always the football!! I cannot fathom this out if they have put us on SA T V either. Do you think you can tell us what we could be doing wrong, my god ,I'd be so grateful.confuse confuseconfuse

Wendy, I really don't have any idea what you could be doing wrong but there must be something.

I have my registration set to WA and wherever I go, I get the WA commercial channels as well as ABC and SBS from WA. I can also access ABC and SBS in all other areas of Australia from whatever location I an in.

I have just had a look at the football programming for SA for 2015 and it appears that all Crows and Port matches are shown on Southern Cross Austereo Port Pirie/Broken Hill. You should also be able to access Channel 7 and 7Mate from VAST.

This is from the VAST Website:- What channels are available on VAST?

ABC and SBS are broadcasting standard definition channels ABC1, ABC2/ABC4, ABC3, SBS1, SBS2 and the high definition channels ABC News 24 and SBSHD.

For further information about ABC channels on VAST, click here.

For further information about SBS channels on VAST, click here.

Southern Cross Media, Imparja TV, WIN and GWN are broadcasting digital commercial television channels in standard definition with programming from the 7, 9 and 10 networks and the high definition channels OneHD, 7Mate and 9GEM.

As Southern Cross and Imparja are mentioned, as well as 7Mate, I really cannot see why you are not receiving the programmes.

You may also want to check this section from the VAST Website:-

Am I eligible to get the VAST service?

The VAST service can now be accessed by eligible viewers in all states.

Access to Commercial TV services is subject to an eligibility test that takes into account commercial television licence areas and availability of conventional terrestrial television services at your location.

There are four categories of viewers eligible to access Commercial TV on VAST

  1. Viewers in the Remote Central & Eastern Australia Licence Area: View Map
  2. Current Satellite Viewers outside the Remote Central & Eastern Licence Area: these viewers currently watch satellite television and have special permission ("out of area" approval) for the existing "analogue" Aurora satellite services because they are in a television black spot
  3. Viewers in regional and metropolitan areas served by normal terrestrial TV services but who are unable to receive TV after digital switchover. As digital switchover rolls out across Australia, regional and metropolitan viewers who will not be able to receive television after switchover can apply for VAST access 6 months prior to switchover.
  4. Travellers: people travelling in caravans or motor homes in Remote Central and Eastern Australia are eligible to apply for temporary access to Commercial TV on VAST. Click here for Travellers Application

You may also submit an application and seek pre-approval before purchasing a decoder. Please follow the instructions on the VAST application form.

If you are not eligible to receive the commercial TV services on VAST, you may still be able to receive ABC and SBS in your location. You can select this option during the registration process.

How can I check if I'm eligible?

  1. Enter your address and post code in the search address field and click "go".
  2. Your location will be marked by a pin on the map. If its not in the correct location drag the pin to the correct spot
  3. Refer to the Satellite Eligibility (VAST) or 'Looking to change to satellite?' section to display information about receiving VAST at your location
  4. If you have a VAST set top box and wish to register it, follow the prompts in the information window.

I hope this has been of some help. If you are successful in getting the Crows games I hope it will not be too stressful when they play the Eagles.

The Phantom

EDIT: Just another thought. If you are near one of these businesses that sell the satellite dishes and VAST decoders, go in and see them. Take your VAST Card from the decoder and get them to check it out. They may be able to figure where you are going wrong. The Phantom
