Where do you stay at for Ashford Nsw

Hi All, we are heading to Ashford for a few days and hopefully get some fishing in. There appears to be a few options on Wikicamps including a NP just a few km's away. Just wondering if anyone has a spot you would recommend. Thanks in advance.

Gday...

Unfortunately, I haven't stayed in the Ashford area previously. But I have got this information from here - http://www.caravancaravan.com.au/

Severn River Rest Area

Inverell-Bonshaw Road

Ashford NSW 2361

GPS: -29.29785 , 151.11806

Severn River Rest Area is a large open area located 4km from the township of Ashford. There is a BBQ, picnic table, toilets and bins in this pleasant location. Apparently good fishing in the river.

Ashford Caravan Park

40 Bukkulla Street

Ashford NSW 2361

GPS: -29.32349 , 151.09769

  • Owned by council
  • Adjacent to swimming pool
  • Pet friendly
  • Pay at Post Office in main street
  • Economical rates

Wells Crossing Camping Area

Ashford-Bukkulla Road

Ashford NSW 2361

GPS: -29.36190 , 151.14368

Ashford 02.jpg

Wells Crossing Camping Area is a free camping area, just a short drive from Ashford on the Pindari Dam Road. There is a cleared, flat area atop the bank where the Ashford Lions have built a shelter and placed tables and barbecues.

Hope that has some help.

cheers - John

Thanks for that John, thinking we may give the Severn river rest area a go.

Ive spent many a night in Ashford when Im working in Texas.

I only stayed once at the Wells Crossing Camping Area, as it was very popular, dry and not much grass at the time and no toilet.

Ive spent many a night at the Severn River Rest Area, especially if you can get down the back near the river, the road noise wasnt an issue, and I found most of the people were a lot friendlier there than at the Wells Crossing Camp, apart from the odd group that circle the wagons around the only picnic table, minor issue.

I would also recommend the national park, there are two camp areas very close together, I prefer the first on the right, as most people drive past and goto the second one, so I have spent a week there and had the place to myself most of the time, I think it was only $15 per night.
Fantastic fire pits, good clean drop toilets, no drinking water, better access to the river for swimming, including a area just down the river a bit, that wasnt visible from the main area, so good for a bit of skinny dipping and working on an all over tan.
Though I did have to leave one night when a family of bogans showed up in two cars carting a generator, wide screen TV and used words starting with F and C a lot, mainly when addressing their out of control children.

The caravan park is OK, I think it was $13 a night, with donation box for after hours, outdated amenities, not very clean, a few permanents, sometimes some workers setup there while in the area, but its has a laundry an on site caretaker and is OK for a few nights.

Thanks Oxley, heading up there today. Depending what time we leave, we might drive all the way. Hopefully we can get away early but more then likely it won't be until 5pm so will camp overnight at Walcha.
