Why can't I buy a set of rear helper springs for a RG Colorado 2014 ? I have tried Fulcrum, Peddars and Ironman and they all want to sell me $2 to $3000.00 total upgrades where as all I need is about a 25mm lift. Thanks all in advance. Regards Phil.

I have sent you a PM [ because we can not mention a business name on the forum] to let you know where I got springs done, Had a retemper and an extra leaf installed.
Do not get after market springs as they are rubbish.

I am fitting Ironman load plus helpers, and they are $240 fitted by Sapphire Coast automotive at Eden. The springs themselves were $150 and taken about an hour to fit. Had they on the last ute, a Ford Courier, and they were great. Bill
Bill12 they said the Ironman load plus helpers would not fit the the RG Collie and were for the older model pre 2012. But I am going to delve deeper. Was your model Ironman load plus helpers LP3 ?

I had Pedders Frankston VIC fit an extra leaf to each side rear springs. Raised the back by 50mm. I think for memory around $600 fitted and about 3 hours. Collie handles better and don't feel the hardness in the rear when empty. Very happy. I am also thinking of putting a heavier shocky at rear later if I feel it is needed. I am towing 2.7t with 250kg on the ball.
I don't think it is a problem telling you who did the job for me after all the names mentioned on the forum lately.

I will be looking for a new tow vehicle in the next year or two and would prefer to buy one that didn't need to be modified before it could do what it was supposedly designed to do in the first place. These vehicles are not cheap and modifications add to the cost. Can someone please explain what the problems are and what the mods achieve.
just had our 2013 RG serviced (60,000 K's) and apparently there has been a re-call for front suspension fix - we were un-aware of a re-call. They did ask if we had altered the front suspension (we hadn't) so they must have seen the extra leaf in the rear. We had it done in Albany WA - about $600. The rear was too soft for our heavy van (even though we were within the weight regulations)

I have just fitted the Ironman load plus helper springs, and can truthfully say they are great value for money. I paid $145 for them and it took me about an hour to fit both sides. I didn,t even have to take the wheels off. The rig is much more stable, and I am back to level again. The slide on weighs 6 to 700kgs, and instead of flattening the springs, I am level again. Good gear !
It is far better to either fit upgraded Springs or Reset with Extra Military Wrap leaf than the Stop Gap measure of using these Helper type Springs. Nearly all 4x4's that have come into Aust in the last 50 or so yrs have always when loaded to their Max Payload(GVM) had problems with the Rear Suspensions. Nearly all these vehicles are Rated to carry their Max Load when the Suspension Bump Stops are close to sitting on the Axle Housing.
I fitted my 04 Toyota Ute with Reset/ Extra Military Wrap Rear Springs, Heavy Duty Tough Dog Big Bore Shocks, upgraded Front Coil Springs/Hvy Duty Gas Shocks and Modified LSPV Brake Proportioning Valve. With these Mods my vehicle was Engineer Upgraded to 3.76 tonne GVM.
Othe last 40 yrs owing 8 4x4's I have always carried out these changes for More Reliability and better ride/handling in Off/Dirt Road and Towing scenarios. I have also as a Mechanic and Workshop Owner carried out the same to numerous other vehicles for the same reasons
Horses for courses. I don,t do a lot of extreme 4wding, as I have a 700kg slide on chained to the back of the car. The ironman helpers are good enough for what I do, and are a lot cheaper than replacing the existing springs. Touring is what I mostly do.

The dmax I bought has arb offroad shocks fittd when I bought it, and the seller said it had arb heavy suspension, but it sank when I loaded the camper. The helper springs work and are reasonable price, too.They quotd $800 for airbags, and $1600 for pump up shocks,so I think they are a good compromise. Bill
I'm going to fit what I call a floater spring (one leaf in the rear each side) which I think is what Dougwe told us about when he 1st bought his Collie and had them fitted. If I understand it correctly, these just sit on the top of the existing leaf springs and do not operate until there is sufficient weight.
I'm not in a huge rush for them right now as Isuzu (like most other manufacturers) will tell you "no warranty if you have modified the part or area you are wanting fixed. I recently had my suspension cleaned and greased when I was in NSW because they started to squeak whenever I went over those bloody metal speed humps that shopping centres love to put in their carparks. The first question I got from the Dealer was had I modified the suspension in anyway...
