At the moment the fire is about 15kms south of us. Woodridge has had the evac order . IOD is closed, at the moment we can get out via GinGin Brook Rd but if it hits Woodridge then the only way out is north up to Lancelin then a gravel road thru to Brand highway. ( or stay in Lancelin till the all clear is given) Appliances and bombers are on site. Our fire plan is " Get the hell out of here!! So we will hook up the little van ,chuck some clothes and food in and be ready to skedaddle as soon as we have too.Hopefully the fireys will be able to contain it before it gets this far. Jules and Billeeeee are ready to go as is Len.

We are monitoring DFES and main Roads and our local community face book page.

I had to flee a bush fire years ago and it is terrifying experience. If you have an opportunity just get out of there and return when it is safe.

You will know the decision to make.

We are monitoring the fire, can be out of here in less than 10 minutes and out on the highway and heading north. We know all the dangers of fires having lived in the bush all our lives and don't take any chances with it.
There has been a wind change at present so we are just waiting and watching.

Went for a drive after dark, armed with a camera, to see just where the fire is. Stopped by police on IOD at Guilderton turnoff. Spoke to police who had cars, trucks ,motorbikes, and caravans parked up. No one is allowed in. Fire is contained but not controlled. All will be good IF the Freo Doctor (evening southerly breeze)stays on holiday!! If the wind comes up and the fire jumps the containment lines we could be in for an interesting night!! Could smell smoke whist talking to police but couldn't see any fire so no photos. In a direct line across the paddock we are less than 5kms from Guildy. There are only grassy paddocks between us and Guildy so fingers crossed the fireys can get it out.

Thinking of all of you over there.

Fingers are crossed that the fireys can manage to put it out before it gets any closer to you.

Take care.

Here is a link with a photo showing the smoke from the fire to the east of Guilderton, the mouth of the Moore River can be seen in the photo with the Guilderton Caravan Park shown on the left hand side, see;

I see in the article that another fire south of Perth has been put out at Secret Harbour where Wombat lives also.

Here is the photo of the smoke from the fire seen from Guilderton near Sufil's place which is about 5 kms north of the fire and smoke.

We have had no smoke here and couldn't see the fire last night. No breeze/wind overnight ( thank you to the weather gods for holding the Freo Doctor over night) so I would say the fireys had a reasonably easy night ( they would have been busy but not as frantic if the fire was raging like it was during the day). The wind is starting to pick up now though. Off for a drive to see what we can see!! will report back in when we get back.

We went for a drive into Woodridge and Guildy this morning. Woodridge is still closed but Guildy is open. The fireys are still mopping up, detour is still in place as IOD is still closed. Very little smoke around and cant see where the fire was/is from the road. It came within 10 metres of the southern part of Woodridge so it was a bit close for friends there. The wind is picking up but it is blowing in the right direction (away from towns and into bush and coast) should there be flare ups from fallen trees etc

Good to hear all is getting better. When I was in the RAAF at Pearce (Bullsbrook) we had a big fire in the Chitering valley we were volunteered to fight, nothing scarier I'm saying. I take my hat off to the firemen who do this for a voluntary job.

Keep safe and hitched up.

Let's hope it stays that way.......what you could do with up there is a personal "drone" that you could fly around 5 kms to check out the fire, lol, would save having to drive, and as the crow flies etc....

Thanks for the pic's Sue and Phil, at least you won't have to worry about the ground fuel from that area for awhile, the old blackboys (ooops.....grass trees) seemed to have stood up to it ok....smile

Its hard to imagine Sue, that in a few years time, these burnt out areas will be green again and that fire is needed for many native plants to germinate. Not so good for the native animals though (especially when WA have so many endangered ones) !

The blackboys will thrive, as will the banksia - they rely on heat to germinate the seeds.

(And pffft to political correctness - they are blackboys, and always will be).

. The blackboys will regenerate before any thing else. 90 % of the trees will regenerate too. Then the first rain will bring back all the grasses . It will look a bit moonscapy and grey for a few weeks til it either rains or the winds blow the ash and sand around. A small patch where it crossed IOD near Wilbinga is the only bit that will be visible to the traveller.

We're all mighty to see that you and all, are safe and unharmed by the fire Sufil,

Great pictures and yes, it has done the "BlackBoys" a world of good by being burnt, they will now shed their seeds and regenerate,

They are one plant that were used as markers while fighting Bushfires after dark, when well alight, they would glow bright red and easily visible from a good distance.

Maybe this fire has done more good than harm, certainly cleaned out the dead undergrowth, reducing the danger of fire to zero, and as you say, come the first rains and the grass will return along with all the new plants, it will look a picture next Spring.
