Free or low cost Denmark W.A

Hi all, hoping someone could suggest a good camp in Denmark for next weekend. Being new year long weekend all c/parks are booked out. Have read a post here about a lady called Ella or Elli I think that has a farm and allows caravans to stay. Hope someone can help.

regards Rick

Hi Rick, think you may have been reading some old posts.

Ell on wheels lost her battle with cancer couple/ three years ago. I think it was her  farm you were reading about. RIP Ell.

Denmark is not all that RV friendly, you may find a spot down at Windy Harbour, but you have let your run alfully late.

It's about 200kms from Windy Harbour to Denmark. You could probably do a bit better than that.

I think camping is permitted at Parry Beach ..... Between Walpole and Denmark...... It may cost you $10 for two..... It dosent appear that you have to book so just rock up

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I'm sorry to here about Ell. Yes we have left it a bit late , we bought our van in October and haven't been able to get away yet due to family circumstances . This will be a test run before we head off early next year for the big one.
Regards Rick

I think Denmark has an overflow now on an oval near the centre of town, if you ring the Denmark Tourist Bureau they can advise you on that.   Parry Beach is about 21 kms west of Denmark, there is a height restriction on tall rigs.   Going east from Denmark along the old Denmark road there is Cosy Corner, both that and Parry Beach should be in the Camps book.

PS:  You don't say what type of van you have Rick or how many people (children?).   Also whether you need to go away in school holidays (which you would if you had children) or can go later if none after school resumes.   It is a particularly busy time down south at the moment with school holidays and tourists from Australian and overseas due to the cooler weather down south.   Sue's bridge is a nice cheap campground but long drop toilets only, not all that big, google it for more info.

If you go to the camps section of this forum there are some pic's there under WA that might help.

Sorry to put a dampener on it but all the free and low cost camps will be buzzing down that way over the new year, I know of friends that did it two years ago in a motorhome by "stealth camping" mainly in car parks etc. but not so easy in a caravan.

You may be lucky and snaffle a spot but lots of regulars go that way every year and set up camp a couple of weeks prior to the holidays and don't move out till way after NY.

Small inland towns would be a better bet IMO.

Have to agree Brian, I went down that way at Xmas about two years ago, it was packed at most places, one CP I enquired at wanted $45 for one person for a non-powered tent site and I heard from others it was similar elsewhere.   A couple of the free camps in the Camps book in out of the way places inland weren't too bad but no facilities and very hot.
