Our day day of delivery of our little one at 60

Hi all,

We hope you have all done the shopping for Xmas, because this is gunna take a while to regurgitate the last 24hours.so here go's our delivery of our little one.

We arrived 15 minutes before our time slot for the delivery handover.

Before we get started we get told that the staff noticed that the vynal wood grain finnish under the fridge is bubbling and has cuts in it in two places. They are on to it, and have ordered a replacement already. OK.

So we started inside with the Demo of every thing. Blink and you miss what is been said in the tutorial.

Its ok if your job go's through the same routine all day every day.(lucky for us that I am very pracital in most areas.Thank The Lord.

Trying to absorb the lot you would need a PHD In the latest van tect's.

The Fridge well I will read the book in my own time

For the TV demo he lifts the blind and pulls out the unit only and returns it. I ask the question can it travel in it current position as I have been told most folks lay them on the bed. No need there's a lock to hold it in place. and if it does come away the blind will stop it. Great I say, so where's the lock Probably in the draw in the kitchen. let's get it then and put it on Eh.....When found he couldn't install it. So move over A I will figure it out, Cause if it falls off Jayco will blame ME........ Q. Will nylon lock nuts stop it from coming off. ....A. What are they.confuse Don't bother.

We move into the bath room combo and I demo Lambie the fold down vanity. What's this no clip to hold it up in place. Fix it....K.

There's White mastic marks on the internal walls that should have been removed at the factory. Fix it.....K

The LED clearance lamps I did it myself all the gum / mastic I removed with my own box cutter blade.

We ordered an extra jockey wheel bracket to be welded on the out side of the frame so I could use my power mule to move the van in addition to the one standard fixed in the middle of the frame. we got both welded to the outside. One LH one RH side.furious

I get underneath to take a peak water tanks now forward and grey water tank to the rear. I look closer The brakets  for the pipes havn't been fixed to the frame. Fix it..........Ok.

We get to the loo cassette demo and out she comes. I say I think we are missing the cap and O ring on the drain pipe. Where ? Where you drain the one's and two's from. Ho your right. Fix it....................Ok.

If you would like to go in side a have another cupper we will get it right and you can do the paper work to save time. and we will hook it up FOR YOU!

Im not done yet. The fold up attana is wraped in two kilos of plastic and tape. Fix it...................Ok.

With the paper work done,we sit and wait.

I im looking out the window in the display room and another van is parked up out front. Something is not right.

So off I go down into the delivery bay. Where's my jerry can holder on the front frame?................ We could not fit that because you have an extended 300mm draw bar> Load of BS.

comes standard as per show model and in the paper work.......A. your not allowed to carry fuel on the draw bar. LOAD OF BS.

Do you still want one YES I'll weld it on myself.

Now can you drive it up out of the way and we will get one of the girls to show you how to operate the Awning as we have to show the next couple through their van.

We had never used one as this is our frist. Been an outback she couldn't reach or undo the back knobs to losen the slides, another guy tells her how too.

We had to sign a form to say we had been showen how the( lot works) including hitching and unhitching. BS. Signed as we were so late already.

So we hit the black top and a few quick photo's ( Dougwe pointed out In the Show us your rig, in the back ground REPAIR SHOP that we woundn't  need it in the future.) Thanks Dougwe.

Turning onto the M4 I said to Lambie. They hooked it up not me. I better check everything. Check my photo's.

We pulled up on the shoulder of the M4. No R clip through the coupling, so I walked back and fourth looking for a bit of wire to put  through the hole. I found the end of an ocki strap hook and cut away the plastic and using a pair of muli grips bent it around. The D shackles were very small and tight 1ton rated  Not 2ton. rated. I had mine in the back of the wagon and changed them on the spot.

Well we finally got home and the baby put into the Nursery.

Lets start in the front boot. its not locked, Um. so we look in side. The jack has left it mount ( who would mount a jack fair in the middle of the boot.hmmhmmhmm to start. I will fix myself.

So we close the boot turn the small handles put the right key in and turn. and againg turn. and again turn. BS ....BS ....BS won't lock. BS I pulled the door down and gave up.

What will I find when I go back for another look.

NOT HAPPY JAYCO and when your staff tell us theirs a four month wait for service. Ill park it in your drive way till we get a reply to warranty.

JIM & LAMBIE

PS: We found the cassette cap an ring in the Toilet bowl. The seat was down.

Forgot to add a few Photo's too.DSCN4400.JPGDSCN4400.JPGDSCN4401.JPG

Sounds like a very painful birthing process, but then again it's a caravan and Jayco use the owners as their quality control staff and that have to leave things out to ensure you are on the ball.

I hope it isn't a fibreglass van because Jayco told me they have to be polished with a special polish twice a year which I didn't and that's why the gel coat on one side of my van has failed, but the other side is ok so someone must have polished it twice a year when I wasn't looking.

Good luck with your newborn you will probably need it.

It won't make you feel any better but you're an orphan with this experience. I don't know anyone who hasn't had "teething" problems with a new van. The industry needs a good dose of regulation as all other road vehicles are regulated.

Gee I am going to have fun with Jayco at the next show I go to......Perth March 2016......

I wonder what reasons they can give to entice me to look at their vans.....

Sad to hear about all the dramas after being so excited ....... Hope it all gets better

We have the previous model in exactly the same layout as yours Jim....and have had much the same sort of "
entertainment" with ours too...so nothing has changed in 2 years hey. An idea for your jerry holders....get another one and mount both of them on the rear bumper like we did. Great for hoses...levelling blocks....tent pegs etc. Made up a lid for each one to stop stuff flying out. Oh ...forgot to mention...have 2 cheap water jerries from superthief with tops cut out in each holder. Never intended to carry fuel and never will..as have long range tanks in Datto. your number plate is in a different spot to ours ..so that may be a brain teaser for a bit hey.

The worst probs we had was a bouncy floor near table / fridge....water leak at back of ensuite...and now cracking above front boot door. All being fixed by Jayco no probs...so they really do honour their after sales ...even 2 years out hey. All the other things I fixed myself...and Jayco Orange fixed some others during service.

Would I buy another one ?? At this stage yes...mainly because we would like to update to a Journey 17.55-8 Outback down the track a bit.

Cheers  Keith

Hi Keith,

Thanks for you kind words.

Yes I can, and will fix most of the niggles too, myself.

BUT If they had any sort of Quality control at all, and It was my Company, I would show them the door. Their Staff couldn't give a TOSS and it SHOWS. Throw in their Supperviser as well.

My Company and All My Staff do it once and once only. They love their jobs and do it well. In return They share in the company Profits and get family time out. That's how good companies grow.

Enjoy today,

Jim

Merry Christmas back to you Jim.

Quality Control and Jayco in the same sentence?????...hmmm...sumthin not quite right there hey.

BUT...to their credit...their warranty is ..IMO...pretty bloody good....and as someone else said in another post...their customers are their quality control......which I know is morally wrong as you say.

So far all my concerns that I asked them about have been fixed ...as well as countless others that I did myself. They even gave me a ATM upgrade when I pointed out that their ATM was damn unrealistic . Overall I reckon they are a pretty good value van though...and I suppose for blokes like you and me who are prepared to fix things that are not right is really not a biggie

Cheers  Keith
