Budget Insurance Companies

Would just like to give a heads up on that famous Budget D....t Insurer referred to in another post.

When we cracked the chassis of the ute running off the road near Cooktown the assessor inspected & cleared the claim as OK .

The underwriters Aust Auto & General reviewed it & we were told as we had been towing with the vehicle for in excess of 12 months it must have been metal fatigue.

The caravan comes in at 30 percent of the allowable tow weight.

The vehicle is a write-off. No insurance!

So if your towing anything beware of any insurance company with BUDGET in the name or for that matter any company with the above-mentioned underwriters.

I'd be taking that one further - without an engineers report they have no way of confirming it was the crack in the chassis that caused you to run off the road or the crack was a consequence of you running off the road. (I'm presuming you ran off the road)

Re budget type insurers - we've had excellent service from YOUI. 6 months ago we had a leak in our shower at home that caused swelling of the craftwood wall and architraves behind the shower. The assessor said it was happening due to water leaking from behind the shower head which is not covered by insurance as it should have been noticed by us and rectified. He was very apologetic about it and then offered at no cost to us to send out a plumber to do a pressure test on the shower combination - this revealed the leak was coming from the actual high pressure side of the tap which cannot be seen normally. This made the damage claimable. Part of the damage was to our polished floors with a water stain under the 2 pack floor coating which he said would be very difficult to fix - he then offered $850 cash compensation for the floor plus completely remove a wall, reline and paint properly. As a side note, the floor stain has dried out and is now undetectable.

So we had it all fixed up better than new and after our $500 excess we had $350 cash in our hot little hands.

The reason we are with this mob is simply because they offered us insurance at almost half what we were paying with CGU.

I think what is different with YOUI is that they pick their mark.....they rate the premium according to the risk and if you are a good risk you get a better rate.
It also pays to be friendly on the phone and when the assessor calls make him/her a cup of tea and be honest......

So Foz, I'd take it all the way.

Good Luck.

Ta.............Taking it all the way the best way I know how.........................tell everyone!
Went to GIO.
When they heard my sad story they quoted to beat the BD rate & overall with the 2 cars, boat, caravan, trailer, house & shops I saved $1700 in premiums/annum.
$4000 yearly premiums gone forever all through BD being too smart for their own good.
They would have made up the write-off amount from me in 3 years.
This happened in late 2014. Received a letter from BD last week titled would you believe...........WE WANT YOU BACK & offering incentives to re-sign with them.
Poor dumb bastards............
Glad you had a good result.

I'll put my hand up....yes I'm Captain Risky

I hit 3 cars on separate occasions parked in front of my house within 2 years, was advised to look elsewhere for insurance.

Though they did fix all the damages done

Still waiting for my Captain Risky figure to turn up
