The tiny town of Grass Patch is about 60 Klms north of Esperance, WA. Right now it's the "nerve centre" of operations to help repair many klms of burnt out farms and farminging fences.
My partner, Jennifer, and I worked in Blazeaid for 18 months in Qld; Vic. and NSW before coming over to WA.
If you are on the way, north or south, be sure to stop and see if you can lend a hand to these poor blooody farmers.
Make sure they comply with the bloody stupid WA event rules or our Minister for seniors will on their back qnd send them all packing to the nearest Big4
Hi Graham and Jennifer. On behalf of many others, not just members of this Forum, a genuine and sincere thank you so much for helping these country folk. and for so long as well.
We all seem to rush to help when theres a disaster in a major city - lots of money poured in by State and Federal govt's, but not much for the country folk who are often too stubborn, proud and self-reliant to make a lot of noise to get the same help.
We stayed at Salmon Gums CP for a very enjoyable week about 3 weeks before the fire and we wonder now if theres anything left of this community run park that is (or was) so great, all the facilities of a run for profit CP, but as cheap as chips (although at that time they were making profit from patronage and looking at adding more facilities).
We are doing a farm stay not that far from these fires and both my wife and I have been working with the farm owner and his staff to send feed and fencing to the general area.
