Have you signed up for any of the house sittings websites, like www.aussiehousesitters.com.au ? This time of year there are a LOT of people looking for house sitters, in fact I've been contacted by some so desperate they were offering to pay "expenses", but as I value my reputation I'm sticking to what I've committed to do, judging by how many are contacting me as the house sitter they had booked has dropped out at the last minute.....

Just be aware that some of the desperate ones can't get sitters for a good reason, 7 horses, 6 sheep, 5 nasty pig dogs (that ate the last sitter), 4 grumpy cats, 3 sickly chooks, 2 parrots and partridge in a pear tree.
In other words a full days work, not including the overgrown garden they want fixed, after you do the fences and paint the house.

I agree with Oxley - we use that site and its great. Also agree with the warning about all the work that may be dropped on you, so its very important to clearly agree that "this is what you do and nothing more". We got burnt with a farmer in NSW and then went to a farm in WA. This time I detailed exactly hat was expected of us, but the owners still tried to get us to do more - and I just said no, remember we discussed this in our emails........

Its so important to get a clear agreement on what youre housesitting their place for - if its pet/house sitting, then weeding gardens that haven't been attended to for the past 5 years is not part of the deal. Also be careful with pool and spa maintenance - I know of a couple who got blamed for breaking the hose owners pool pump when they only did what they were shown to do by the owners.
