Is it necessary to book Caravan Parks in advance along the West Coast

I am planning to travel along the West Coast during the winter months (June - September) next year and some people tell me it is not necessary to book Caravan Parks in advance. Others tell me it is a must as they are normally booked out.

I would appreciate any of your views if you are familiar with the area during the winter months

What people are telling you is possibly right for the north of WA, but down the south and south west you will be able to get a place in a park, just maybe not in the park of your first choice

We did Perth to Broome this year in August/September. (Check Recommendations Warlu Way)

Booked Broome Roebuck Bay for 7 days back in May/June.

Other than that the only place with limitations was Coral Bay.

However  note that this is the end of the season for North West WA and you may have issues if traveling in the peak months of June/July.

Depends where you go so in 2014 we did that trip and came close to missing out in a few places Coral bay we ended up with the dogs and monkey mia was pretty booked so we could not stay as long as we wanted. Only these come to mind. Tom

Well cjt55, I can give you a tip if you are planning on stopping in Carnarvon, and I have been a permanent in The Big 4 Plantation C/van P/k since Feb 1999 after coming here for a couple of nights. That's another story.

There are 7 Caravan parks in Carnarvon, and all are empty right now, except for the permanents (about 8 of us here). Apart from the last couple of years which have been a bit quieter, the town fills right up from about May to the start of September so definitely book during that period. I think the drop off during those months might have something to do with rates going from $25 to $45 for a shower and wee, over the last few years. From Geraldton North, from March to September cover your bottom and book ahead

Cheers and happy travelling.........Simmo.
