Is there anyone who has travelled both roads in direction of Dubbo?
I have done the Toowoomba route, so thought a different way home would be good. However, I do not want a mountainous route and I dread towing the van up the range to Toowoomba.
I travelled through Warwick many moons ago and have no recollection of hills etc.
I came up the Pacific from Sydney, so won't be returning that way.
The Toowoomba route up the range is steeper but dual lanes so you can get your speed up, also a bit shorter than the Cunninghams Gap road which is narrower with sharper turns and consequently has more road incidents.
Unfortunately there is no easy way over the range. In 3 years time the Toowoomba bypass will be operational and will be less steep but you'll be slugged with a toll.

Have done the Toowoomba Route in April and it's very good and I would think it the way to go if your heading to Dubbo , Plenty of places to stop over , I think the Warwick crossing is ok has well but I find the Toowoomba crossing suit me.I Don't like the Pacific to many trucks .
This takes you through avoiding highways, beautiful countryside with minimum traffic and all roads sealed. Mix that with some good free/low cost camping. Highlight for us on this trip was Werris Creek Railway Station.

Will be more than happy to pay a toll to avoid the Toowoomba climb.

The trucks weren't the problem it was all the roadworks and 80 speed limits.
I'm actually on the way back home to West Wyalong way from Maroochydore. The plan is to be home by the 16th.
Going via Brisbane, Warrick, Stanthorpe will avoid the climb....

Toowoomba Range is no problem with a van. The road was done up about 12-18 months ago. A new alignment on the second last corner going up has greatly improved things. Just do not follow too closely behind trucks. One time both lanes were blocked for a few minutes because loaded trucks in both lanes had missed a gear....

Yes, I did a return tip there this year. Much prefer going down. You have to feel sorry for the truckers who do it on a regular basis.
If you go that way the old pub at Maryvale is worth a look. There is a small park opposite it. It is just a few kms from the highway. Also if you go through Warwick on a Wednesday the Pig and Calf sales may interest you. These are becoming a bit of a tourist thing. John
If your at Maroochydore, just for fun why not go along the D'Aguilar Hwy to Yarraman, down through Coyar and either Crows Nest or Kingsthorpe. That way you miss the ranges but also Brisbane. Good sealed roads, bit further tho

Was an excellent drive, but a little too much for me in one hit.
I made it to Uralla, after 7pm.
Am now settled in, at the Uralla caravan park. The lovely host opened up for me after hours. I'm a member of KUI Parks so it's only $24 per night. It's off the highway and very quiet. Have decided another night's stay will be in order so I can fully recover.
Then, on Tuesday morn it will be a very short run - in comparison to today's - to Peak Hill.
