We love our Cobb Cooker, and use it frequently for bread baking and lots of other things.
We had a major mishap, the plastic Top Ring suffered a melt down. Of course , those at Cobb were amazed that such a thing could happen and had no explanation without lab tests and etc. as it is such a rare occurrence. But, a quick google showed its quite common and caused because the "Grommets" (or heat insulators) age and need replacing before they collapse, and hence a melt own.
Parts are readily available from Cobb and delivered postage free ( because its a common occurrence ??). The Top Ring costs about $20 and the replacement grommets are about $10. Could be that timely replacement of the grommets is a good maintenance routine to avoid the dreaded meltdown.
There's a pic of the melt down and also a pic of a loaf of bread it turns out
Hello Bob
Would you mind telling us what beads you are using. We have used the fibre rings (they changed them) and it was ok, the replacement did not work. We tried "easy light" with no good result. Now we just stop using it. Sad state of affair!,
Your bread looks pretty yummy.
We have not used ours long enough for a melt down but will keep this in mind
Regards
Christine
We use heat beads to cook with Christine, and have had spectacular results, that bread in the pic took only 25 minutes to bake, only complaint is the top is pale and the bottom is extra dark. We also reclaim the un-burnt heat beads with a pair of tongs and put them in a biscuit tin where they extinguish, we relight them when we bake next.
