Gregory Development Road

Hello fellow nomads

I have just joined up. Mrs Mouse and I will be heading off from Tas during 2016 to go up and down and around the big island. But in the meantime I am heading off for a practise run bringing a camper back from the Isa to tassie for a friend.  I am considering going across to Townsville (I have old mates there) and then going down the gregory highway to Emerald from Charters Towers . Can anyone give me any advice about the state of the road, the traffic it carries (including nomads) and any campsites/gas stations before I get to Clermont? Would appreciate it very much.confuse

Thank you.

The road is a normal, sealed road.
This time of year probably not a heap of nomad traffic. There is mining around Clermont but the coal goes by conveyor belt and railway, not trucks. Just usual traffic.
Fuel up in Charters Towers. Top up if you must at roadhouse at Belyando Crossing - expensive. Fuel at Clermont and Capella.
Very pleasant caravan park at Capella - our choice through that section.

Mouse. Charters to clermont  good road some very good and the boys in blue watch some of it ,  if your fuel range is 400 k no need to stop.   Emerald showground good o/n stop was $20 a night June. best to go into Clermont couple of k for fuel not at roadhouse. a lot of our inland highways have " Call Points "  if you have uhf on channel 40  and you hear a call expect some one coming and is most likely a lot bigger than you.  cheers have a good trip.

Wendy and the Fox are pretty right .. you'll enjoy a comfortable journey down that way.

I can recommend the pies'n mushy peas at Clermont bakery (that's if they're as good as last year), but you need to be there before noon to beat the lunchtime rush.
