Couple Robbed Near Coonamble NSW

from NSW Police Facebook post a few minutes ago.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a couple were robbed at a rest stop near Coonamble on the weekend.

About 1.30pm (Saturday 28 November 2015), a man and a woman aged in their 70s stopped their white Toyota Landcruiser at Coonamble Rest Stop on the Castlereagh Highway.

A short time after they stopped, a man opened the rear doors and sat in the 4WD.

He pointed a sawn-off rifle at the couple and demanded cash.

They complied and handed over cash before the man got out of the Toyota and walked away.

The couple drove away from the location and contacted police.

Officers from Castlereagh Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigators are now appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area or have information that may assist with their inquiries to contact Coonamble Police Station on 6822 1488 or Crime Stoppers.

Police would like to speak to a man who was described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in his 30s, large build and unshaven. He was wearing a black cap with a neck flap and motif on the front, a dark t-shirt, blue and black chequered shorts.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. edit: Just found out that a motorhome was broken into at the same spot a week or so ago. Whilst the occupants were sleeping.

A handbag was stolen and the occupants woke up and scared them off.

Seems Coonamble is not a friendly place to stay.

 Peter I am advised it was near the Shell servo.

A long time since I was there so I do not have any idea where that actually is.

Edit: checked on google earth. It seems there is a rest area beside the river opposite the main sports oval. On the Castlreagh hwy as you go into town from the south. Almost opposite the Servo on the right.

There is a CP in town which may be a safer option for an overnighter.
