plasmatronics pl60 solar charge controller


Hi

 

Am thinking of going for this one, has anyone had any experience good or bad with this brand.  I Have 600w solar on the roof and 3 x 320amp batteries, and use about 100amps at night.  Thanks for any opinions

They are one of the best Harry and give all management readings to correctly know what is going on with the Solar and Batteries. I have 2 Plasmatronics one PL20 in vehicle and the other PL40 in van both set to own Program for the Lithiums and working great. You can obtain all operating procedures from Plasmatronic.

I have had a PL60 in the OKA for 11 years.
It has been faultless.
I did have a set up problem and their technical back up was first class, even though the problem was not with their product.

They recently advised that there was an possible inductance problem with large units that were heavily loaded. I emailed their enquiry section and they telephoned me back 37 minutes later and after establishing exactly what I had they posted me an upgrade kit.

These regulators are OK but you have to be aware that these regulators were designed to be used in the communications industry. They were designed as positive earth devices. What that means is the positive (+ve) terminals for the array, battery and load are connected together. When you use them in a negative (-ve) earth system you will be earthing only one of the negative terminals. If you want to use load terminals in a simple installation then the house wiring system must be floating if your battery negative battery terminal is earthed.

If you want to charge the battery from your tug or 240 V charger and retain the battery state of charge (SOC) function you will have to add external circuitry to the installation to retain the SOC readings. This will include one or more current shunts. It is thus possible to still have the SOC readout but you will no longer have a simple readout.
