Kododa Batallion - Opinions, Anyone?

We're looking for a family van. ie. one with a queen bed and at least 3 bunks, so when we go away we can take the grandkids, or if it's say a quick trip down to Phillip Island for the weekend, we can take friends with us.

We've been searching and traispsing in and out of vans since we started our search in earnest 2 months ago.

It will be our first van.

This Kokoda Battalion seems to fit the bill. Not overly heavy to two, has the proper sleeping arrangements, ensuite, etc.. One of our criteria is that the "bedroom" is at the opposite end of the door. Reason being is that we like to have somewhere that's private and able to be closed off from the rest of the van. Same reason why, at home, we don't have visitors walking through our bedroom when they come into the house.

So, the Kokoda may be the go. I'd like to hear from anyone here if they've owned one of these vans, not necessarily the Battalion, or if they've seen any reviews. I've yet to find anything.

Thanks

Hi ..

A fair bit of discussion on the site on the link below, particularly about the question of manufacturer(s).

If true that they are contracted out to one of several builders, then I for one would be a bit put off.

However the ones that I have seen look good.

mjt,

Don't know if you want a brand new one or not. I have a 2011, registered 2012 caravan for sale, brand Cosy Cab manufactured in Melbourne. It has a combo toilet and shower, all the rest fits your criteria 19'6. It's on caravancampingsales website or let me know if you'd like to know anything else.

We were parked next to people with a Kokoda in north Qld.  They were not very happy with the van.  Do some research before you spend your money.

Phillip, why weren't these people happy with their Kokoda?

Thanks. Just signed up to that forum. The Kokoda that we looked at down at Seaford Caravans is manufactured by Domain Caravans, according to the VIN plate.

Hi mjt57,

As a new Kokoda owner I'd like to have my say.

If you search this forum you will find some comments I've made in regard to Kokoda. Some are here

In brief -

 - We have bought a Kokoda Tribute II Platinum through Adelaide City Caravans

 - The build time was long (we expected 12-14 weeks but they promised 8-9 weeks, I was more right than them)

 - We felt they gave us value for money which allowed us to add some custom features (upgrade to a higher model, slide out drawers, fitting a satellite dish, bits and bobs, etc) and it still come out cheaper than similar vans

 - Yes they use different manufacturers, so what? ours was built by Skytrax in Melbourne. Fit and finish is as good if not better that some more expensive vans out there.

 - We had an issue with the satellite dish, it wouldn't work! I found it had a dead short in the wiring. At one point Skytrax offered to send someone over from Melbourne to look at the problem. A day back at the dealer for an auto electrician to look over it, dead short found and fixed under the dish and all was well.

 - A trip to Swan Hill and a damaged solar panel had Skytrax (and Adelaide City Caravans) on the phone trying to help. A visit to "Ultimate RV Service Centre" in Swan Hill to verify the damage was a tree branch and little damage to the van had Skytrax offering to send me another sola panel at cost price.

Now my advice to you is to research as much as you can before you make you choice. I am in no way saying Kokoda is perfect, but after previous experiences with Jayco and Crusader I am very happy with our latest choice.

As an aside, I have spoken to 5 or 6 Kokoda owners. Not a lot I know but I'm yet to find someone dissapointed with their van

Good luck

Jeff
