I am new rv pilot..lol..would like to know uhf channels that are used by greynomads...plus emergency...plus all women on the road...can anyone help please...Salty
I stick to 40 Salty. The reason being I will always know what's up ahead, wide loads, accidents etc. I will know what's coming up behind me, trucks, b-doubles, roadtrains etc.
I presume if some came on you wanted to chat with. You would move to another number.
Welcome to the gang Salty, enjoy here and out in the playground, "good buddy"
"You got a copy ahead there Salty"
As Marj said, 40 is the best to sit on but 29 if travelling the Pacific Hwy in NSW. I actually scan, 5, 9, 11, 18, 22, 25, 29, 35, 40. Why, cos 5&35 are emergency channels. 9&11 are general call channels. 18 is used for caravaners/travellers. 22 is used by roadwork cruse a lot. 25 is used by some coach drivers and being an ex driver I like to 'spy' sometimes. 29 is trucky chanel on Pacific hwy ( they must think they are special ) :) 40 is the main trucky channel.
Always communicate with truckies to let them know you are aware of them if behind and you will work in with them as to not delay them for too long. They are working hard and have un realistic deadlines to meet, we don't.
You sound a Solo lady so can I suggest you either turn the UHF off or at least down as you come into big Towns and Cities due to the morons and language.
The main thing is have it on as much as possible and put a sign on the back of your rig saying "UHF 18/40" that way truckies or anyone else know you "have your ears on"
Another thing I would suggest if I may is, if you are a Solo and want to put your name on the back so anyone can say "you copy Salty" assuming you put Salty. If you want your first name also put a Male name. That way people think there is 2 of you.
There are heaps of very knowledgable solo ladies here on the forum as well as in the playground.
Keep Safe on the roads.

Dougwe hi
29 is used on the Sydney to the Gold Coast part of the Pacific Highway for a very good reason in that certain areas Kempsy to Coffs Harbour you will copy the guys up on the New England Highway from Armidale though to Tenterfield causing a lot of confusion which dates back to around the mid eighties when UHF was gaining popularity from AM CB.
Great advice here. we just got a little GME after a nasty wide load experience on the Bruce. But I also discovered (the hard way) this about UHF. This is straight from Tekonsha brake people:
"Thank you for contacting Tech Support. It is entirely possible for a two way radio to affect the performance of a brake control. You will want to mount the radio (including antenna cable) and brake control, at least 12 inches apart from each other."

It is possible I suppose, but highly unlikely if the UHF body is grounded properly and the cable is terminated properly.

If you are looking for names of groups for women travellers salty, there are a few on facebook.
Aussie Women Travelling Solo is one.
Also Chicks Camping Crew is another one.
Many thxs for the info, I am trying to dot all the i's and cross all the t's before heading for Victoria Monday week..need to get totally at ease behind my news wheels, plus good info is worth it's weight in gold, not too proud to learn from folk who know the right/best way to enjoy my final dip in my life's bucket list..lol..Salty
Salty - if you are heading to Victoria from Tamworth take a detour to Greens Lake - go to the Greens Lake forum on this site and you will find a map. There are several GN's there at the moment, mostly parked to the right of the boat ramp, looking at the lake. Free camp, easy run to Melbourne from there, flushing toilet, no potable water, but the water in the toilets is good for washing etc. Happy Wanderer is there I believe, as well as Dougwe, Glenelg, Yeoeleven and others - they will make you most welcome, I am sure!
