new to 4 x 4 driving. Can we go to the music festival without having to join a tag along tour. We have a camper trailer and a Holden Colorado. A uhf radio and a winch fitted. We would take a satellite phone. Any advice would be appreciated
Just looked it up. Sounds like fun. If you are going directly to Birdsville, and not going across country, the road is rough but doable. I did it this year for the Birdsville Races. Just take it easy and real slow. Punctures are common. Make sure you have everything you need. If it is anything like the races, the road will be busy. PM me if you have specific questions
Thanks for the reply. Wanted to go this year but had only got our new car. Had trouble with the size of our tyres in s.a. Spoils our trip trying to get a spare tyre. Finally did in Mildura and came home . Will be buying another spare to have besides the spare plus look at spare parts. Looked at a tag along trip but that was over 3200. Want to try it ourself But safely. It looks like it would be fun. We will be coming up from melbourne
Would have been nice to know which route you intend to travel. If you are going in via Quilpie or Boulia you only need a sedan and a soft road van.A few travellers have towed European vans up the Birdsville Track with soft road tugs. The only thing is that if you go via the Birdsville Track they advise you carry two spares for both the van and the tug.
I reckon there would be no need to travel with company with the amount of traffic you will see on the road at that time.

Have not even looked at which way to go as yet. We have a Mars camper trailer, hard floor with better suspension. The wheels on the camper are 16 inch and the Colorado is 17 inch Bridgestone which was the problem. No one had them. The tyre seems to weigh a ton so my hubby can not put it up on rack. We had the ruined one on the top of the camper
