Who can we believe

Just how many other countries have had a mis- calculation .  Why is Mal bothering to go to Paris if no one is telling the truth,  maybe his staff need the  O/S xmas shopping excursion  Read the NASA assessment of the polar ice and it's growing bigger than ever so who can we believe

Gday...

We all remain oblivious to so much confuse ... completely, and naively, accepting the facts fed to us by media, government and 'experts' .... and of course reports/information/expert commentary via the internet. All the more so if it suits our own opinion. cry

I would be interested in knowing the source of the article presented above - publication and author and their background - and the source/s and references referred to from the New York Times publication.

Articles such as these rarely give 'searchable' sources that can be researched and assessed by the readers of this now apparently 'informed' and 'revealing' new information.

[edit1: here is the answer to my question regarding source of the articlehttp://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/04/china-underreporting-coal-consumption-by-up-to-17-data-suggests]

[edit2: here is aninteresting article that suggests that China in fact is producing LESS carbon emissions than had been assumed by 'the experts' confuse

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-33972247]

[edit3: http://energydesk.greenpeace.org/2015/08/20/why-chinas-carbon-emissions-are-lower-than-everyone-thought/]

[edit4: http://carbon-pulse.com/chinas-co2-emissions-exaggerated-by-up-to-14-study-finds/]

As the subject of this post suggests ... Who can we believe? confuse confuse confuse confuse

Cheers - John

Wombat, do you have a link to the published NASA data showing that Polar Ice is growing bigger? I've had a look (Googled) but can't find it.

Gday...

Here ya go Troopy -

The only thing that is certain in all this stuff, is that the majority of the members (if not all cry) of this forum will not be here to see who turns out to be right. no

I wouldn't be sweating the outcome of climate change in my lifetime, If we listen to the so called expert advice one minute we are all going to freeze next we are going to cook or all the dams will run dry . No wonder there are so many climate depressed people out there. I get depressed after a couple of days rain keeps me indoors.  Just think if the ice melts there will be a sea level rise hence more fishing spots   Bring it on

PS  Our own CSIRO are now showing a tendency to take a  bet each way but you need to read their report not the news grabs  media use to sell papers,

As we improve the methods of climate data gathering  and collating  along with  the sensitivity of the instrumentation available we may get somewhere near a true story on what part fossil fuel s play in the overall picture  Like the scientist that started this  we won't be hear to see it .

If the Maldives and various Pacific islands are shrinking, then obviously the sea levels are rising. If the extra water isn't coming from the polar ice caps, then where?

To add yet more to climate and sea rise theories to the mix which are just as valid as each other but not yet studied in detail

!. The earths core is cooling and the planet is shrinking hence sea levels are rising

2. The magnetic forces are pulling the planet off it's axis, hence sea level rise

3. The magnetic poles are reversing, hence sea level rise and temp variations

4. It's a natural cyclic event which we have no  long-term records to confirm such events ??????

5. The reclamation of  foreshores  to allow for population growth . In some counties land reclamation has almost doubled the original land mass,  hence that displaced water has to go somewhere

Recall staying in the Travel Lodge in Singapore in the 70's right on the water front now that hotel with a different name is many K's inland

There are as many theories out there as there are scientist,  get four in a room and the end result will be four different opinions  the first to publish their theory wins the debate,  that's the way  science works in the real world of academia

Do you not think that maybe the reason there is more sheet ice is because of the mountains of glazier ice that is falling into the southern ocean?

Check the statistics. World consumption of alcohol is rising.

That could be creating a lot of extra fluids that may be responsible for the rising sea levels.

Personally I'm past caring about anything anymore. The young generation deserve the kind of world that they're going to get. In any case Putin is rattling his sabre, China is making threatening moves in the Spratlys, and North Korea, Pakistan and Islamic nutters have the bomb or are well on their way to getting one. WW3 isn't far away.

Well, I read somewhere that the Earth has been around for something like 4,500 million years, and if it is halfway through it's cycle, I strongly doubt that any of us will be here at the end.

Those who don't believe in Climate Change by now are choosing not to believe in Climate Change no matter what anyone says. I wouldn't waste my breath. Oops, I just did.
